this. it's something you make once a month because you want a couple bites of cake. it also dirties no dishes except the cup. it's something you make at 11 pm on a weekend because why not.
I guess you could, but seems like the whole point of it is cutting corners on the work part while yielding a subpar result. But as another anon pointed out, I suppose it's useful for the workplace or dorm rooms where you lack the equipment to make a normal cake.

you are allowed
there will always be haters
because they take the time to do it the long way
they become bitter that somebody would even think of doing it a quick, easy way
many such cases

This. The convenience is for like no-cooking allowed single people, ie dorm kids or people who live in the extended stay hotels or in their truck or RV, where they are forbidden to cook or just alone.
Buy pound cake-quick bread for a smaller portion of slices, on like Entemenn's or just buy a grocery bundt cake. A box of cake mix is $2, and your egg and oil is nothing at all like the mug cake expense. They do make packets for the mugs anyway.
I occasionally like the late night Smores, pumpkin pie or gingerbread Pop Tarts flavors because the crust is cookie not piecrust, screaming hot out of the toaster as a late night snack, rather than bake a tray of cookies with a cup of coffee or glass of milk. It's somewhere in the mood of cookies and cake, but because it has a 2yr expiration date, I can ignore the box for literal months until the mood strikes again.
>A box of cake mix is $2
Making cake from scratch is also piss easy/cheap.
1 egg, 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup milk, 3 tablespoons butter, 1/2 to 1 (preference) teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon of baking powder.
Beat your egg and sugar together until incorporated well and then add the rest of the dry ingredients (flour and baking powder), melt your butter into your milk and allow it to cool so it's warm but not hot. Then slowly add the butter/milk mixture to the batter. Then finish up with the vanilla (as much or little as you like).
>still trying to perfect it though...
Just get the little packets they have at the supermarket. Packet mix goes in, add some water, and boom, mug cake. They are all good, just find the flavor/type you like.
It's for places like work/dorms where you have a nuke box only. Makes it simple to have a little single-serve cake hot n fresh. Definitely a nice little treat, but fattening. I used to use em to get through long as fuck days at work.
Not really as relevant anymore now that telework is more common. You can stick a full cake in the oven and eat slices at home when working from home.
Chocolate Keto Mug Cake
For a keto chocolate mug cake, in a microwave safe coffee mug, melt the butter in the microwave for 10 seconds.
Add the coconut flour or almond flour, sweetener, cocoa powder, baking powder, vanilla and beaten egg. Mix well.
To make this keto chocolate dessert, microwave on high for 60 seconds, being sure not to overcook.
If you overcook it, it will be dry. Top with sugar free chocolate chips of desired.
The cocoa powder was the most finicky bit, which is why it's in grams. A bit more and the cake is very bitter, a bit less and it gets bland. Everything else you can be more fast and loose with.
Peanut Butter
In a microwave safe coffee mug, melt the butter in the microwave for 10 seconds.
Swirl around the inside of the mug or ramekin.
Add the coconut flour or almond flour, sweetener, baking powder, vanilla and beaten egg.
Mix well. Swirl in the peanut butter.
Microwave on high for 60 seconds, being sure not to overcook.
If you overcook it, it will be dry.
Top with sugar free chocolate chips if desired (highly recommend to make this keto dessert over the top).
Vanilla
In a microwave safe coffee mug, melt the butter in the microwave for 10 seconds.
Add the coconut flour or almond flour, sweetener, baking powder, vanilla and beaten egg. Mix well.
Microwave on high for 60 seconds, being sure not to overcook. If you overcook it, it will be dry.
Top with sugar free chocolate chips of desired or mix in before cooking.
Why even bother with the mug? Just make a normal cake
Cuz you can just throw them in the micro and it’s ready in a couple minutes
Sounds like you're just being lazy. If cooking is such a bother just buy the cake
It's single portions. I'm not gonna eat an entire damn cake. I know you would though, you fat fuck

Aye, I used to make those back when I was on keto. Not bad in a pinch, but doesn't compare to the real thing. My recipe was:
1/3 cup almond meal
1 egg
1 tbsp unsalted butter
6 grams cocoa powder (fucking devil substance)
1 tbsp monkfruit sweetener
1/8 tsp vanilla extract
1/8 tsp cinnamon
The cocoa powder was the most finicky bit, which is why it's in grams. A bit more and the cake is very bitter, a bit less and it gets bland. Everything else you can be more fast and loose with.
thanks. I'll give that recipe a try
This one is good:
Never use a full egg for a cup. It is just too much. If you add egg you beat it then put a small portion like a tablespoon of it (or less) in the cup.

Just made one because of this thread. Thousand man hours of effort.
