I own one, single portable hob similar to your pic, and it's fricking great. For 30 dollardoos it's just about the best cost/value I've ever had with Culinaly sttuff
Get this instead
>burning something someone found in the ground
fricking primitive
>burning something someone found in the ground to power something that doesn't
fricking advanced
>doesn't steal electricity from nature
lmao look at this man
how do you think prower grids work you fricking complete idiot piece of shit
hamsters
i got an iwatani one, works great, you don't want those 2kW shitter ones
however, gas is impossible to find (in the netherlands) as a result of the ''''''war''''''''''
so I haven't used mine in a while, using my hot plate instead
nothing wrong with the hot plate, it just takes an endless amount of time to heat up
Don't you have a regular stove?
ok so
here
I have both and they are both good but very different. In general I prefer gas and find it easier to control the heat, but the induction is nearly 100% efficient (as in watts in = heat in the pot with nearly 0% loss of energy). The induction will bring a small pot of water to a rolling boil in like 60 seconds, a large pot in under 4mins. It'll get so hot I can sear beef for stew in like 3 seconds.
Boiling, braising, keeping warm are best on induction. Pan frying, sauteeing, etc are best on gas.
do the hobs just plug into a normal 120v socket or does that limit what you can do with it?
yes it's portable, plugs into a normal socket like you would with a lamp or a dildo. most of them go up to 2kW (although the one in the OP pic is a palty 1.5kW but whatever).
When I lived in that house with a gas stove I would only use the induction for the really hardcore jobs. I would just unplug my toaster and plug the induction cooktop in.
>or a dildo
Wait, did I miss a memo somewhere?
120V will limit you to like 1800 Watts overall. Here in Europe we can plug 3.500 Watt hobs into any outlet.
not necessarily true and glib
>I'm not an electrician
What are you talking about? You can find lots of of 3.500W induction hobs for perfectly standard Euro outlets on German Amazon for instance. They are pretty useless if you dont regularly brew beer in four gallon pots though
What do you do for a living, anon?
How is that relevant
Maybe in apartments with shitty wiring, I have used 3.000 Watt water kettles in apartments myself.
>How is that relevant
I design circuitry for home lighting systems for a living. The bullshit you spouted about mains voltage vs. wattage isn't true. It's a Culinaly meme made up by europeans to make fun of americans for not using electric kettles
Of course one can theoretically design a 120V outlet that delivers the same Wattage as a 230V outlet, but you'd need almost twice as many Amperes. Show me a standard 120V outlet in an American home that you can reliably pump close to 30 Amps through, for at least ten minutes. LOL, LMAO even.
Last time I looked there was not a single portable induction hob an the US amazon site that had more than 1.800 Watts.
Our max wattage on 120v is 3000
But remember that while 120v is what our outlets are in normal rooms.
All of our homes also have 240v ac as well. Its just that we hardwire the items that need this much power
>Its just that we hardwire the items that need this much power
Also not true. Large appliances still plug into the 240V outlets but the outlet shape is different
true for many appliances like dryers and stoves
water heaters , air compressors and hvac are hard wired
My dryer is plugged in, and so was my stove in my last apartment. Where the hell do you live?
>water heaters , air compressors and hvac are hard wired
Yes
thats what I said
True that dryers and stoves are plugged in
My bad
>Our max wattage on 120v is 3000
And just how many homes have outlets that are actually wired and fused for that kind of power?
>Its just that we hardwire the items that need this much power
So you have to unplug your range be able to use the induction hob, or use the clothes dryer outlet in the garage
>So you have to unplug your range be able to use the induction hob
where did you come up with this ?
Most US homes are 200 amp service at 240v
We can consume well over 40,000 watts at any given moment
But in small apartment's the breakers switch off around like 2500 watts
Yes, but do you have to unplug your dildo?
>keeping warm are best on induction
You must be using different induction hobs than I do. Almost all of them have 300-400W as the lowest settng, which is enough to keep a gallon pot of potatoes at a roiling boil and evaporate an inch of water over 30 minutes. HUge waste of energy. the only portable induction hob that can actually do something resembling a low simmer is the IKEA Tillreda hob, which has 100W as its lowest setting.
mine has a 120W setting and yes it does cycle off and on, but it won't burn shit
this is why one needs both, to be healthy
My new apartment has a balcony and I've been eyeballing ones like this trying to decide what fuel type I wanna use (butane/propane/white gas). I miss cooking on a flame vs induction
induction is gr8 if you're accident prone. prevents fires.
It's not a meme to me but seems annoying especially with the temperature flucuations and the having to go on and off instead of maintaining a steady temperature.
Some also seem to have a problem focusing, as in heat spots or patterns.
First its called a range you uncultured euro, second induction is superior to gas and electric. It objectively heats the pan faster and cooks food faster than other methods. It also doesn't make your indoor air dirty as shit like a gas stove.
lmao do you live in an underground bunker? just get some ventilation bro
I have a small gas stove which kinda do the job. Would there be any advantage to add one of these on my tabletop?
induction is much faster, it is vastly easier to clean up if anything should boil over, it doesnt heat up your living space and fill it with combustion byproducts and it is much safer.
Can you sear/cook a 1in. steak in a pan on hi-ish heat on an induction hob?
You can turn it into charcoal and set it on fire if you like, nothing is more powerful than induction
Is this true?
IS THIS TRUE?
Sure it is true. There are plenty of vids on youtube that comparee gas and induction ranges and how long they take to bring a gallon of water to a boil. Even a simple 2.000W induction is considerably more than three times as powerful and fast as a gas burner.
That is compared to an 6 thousand btu gas burner
We have much more powerful ones than that these days
Euro here, most people who have renovated their kitchen within the last 5+ years use induction hobs. Induction cooks ridiculously fast, it’s easy to clean, you won’t have burned food residue anywhere unless you’re literally moronic, generates little heat (great when you’re cooking in summer), you can switch between heat settings instantly (no cool-down period), and it’s very hard to burn yourself when you’re using it. The only downside that it doesn’t heat up wok pans very well, but it’s still manageable.
>tfw no gas-powered induction grill to use outside in the summer
>We can consume well over 40,000 watts at any given moment
i serouly doubt
We never would, but we could
Google it
200 amp service is code now for most new construction and has been for years.
Surely in 2022 no one is installing non-induction stove tops?
Seems moronic if they do.
Induction has that annoying buzzing noise. Also can't be use if you have a pacemaker or something.
I still hear that sometimes from olde style CRT based TVs and cameras.
...
It's not so much a buzzing noise but a very high frequency and its easy to confirm with some old tv and a remote control, heck even our computers can be programmed to send the on / off signals using IR or whatever.
Over a period of time randomly turn on or off an olde time crt tv and document whether or not you can hear the high frequency.
I nail it just about every time, everytime with no interference.
The noise isn't too bad unless you have a very cheap model. My 4-zone hob doesn't really start buzzing until I turn on the Booster mode.
I like the frequency change when it's about to take me into hyperspace, it's like everything goes into a resonance phase then everything at once to nothing, then everything again is right but in a different place, even time if you're good.
Why do they do on/off cycling in the first place? Is the electronics/hardware too expensive to make so a constant temp can be done? It seems to me that with all the things we're capable of keeping a constant temp on something shouldn't be one of the hardest ones. Maybe someone's pushing an agenda.
do you want to put thermometer equipment in our pans?
Because induction doesn't work like traditional electric ranges. Induction is magnets spazing out to induction a current in the cookware, which then heats the food
It means that the tech is too expensive and idiots will buy into anything that's cheap and easy.
Tesla like his prowler grids
Pulsed power/on-off cycling for low power settings have nothing to do with the working pronciple, be it induction, glass top or bare coil. If the cycles have to be done at all (apparently more expensive induction ranges dont need to do that) I have often wondered myself why the cycles are so long i.e. so low-frequency. Increasing the frequency would solve many problems pulsing power causes.
My induction range was almost a grand and it still pulses how high end are we talking here, 2,3,4K even?
No idea, I have just read posts from anons claiming their induction ranges didnt pulse and they were able to do a perfect simmer. Maybe they were just full of shit though and didnt even notice the pulsing, or maybe it just depends on the brand.
yeah it costs like $20
the frick is a hob? is this like a stove but for hobos? english motherfricker do you speak it?
I just don't want to be preached at by a bunch of green twats who claim that a bunch of thermometers in pans and stoves and connected to the internet would be better than just eyeballing something for myself.
Frick em.
That might be the bag, the Big, supple hobo bag in caramel leather. Picrel
I replaced my gas stove with an induction one, it's pretty clean and does a great job.
All you people complaining about gas are simps, I grew up in nyc and everyone had gas stoves. It's excellent and I never smelled anything weird except once when a wicked cross wind threw out the pilot light and all I had to do was relight it. You people against gas are worse than ufo / lizard people conspiracy nuts.
the unpleasant waste heat it puts out and the low power and the difficulty of cleaning the top of the range cant be discussed away
I miss mine. I left it to my brother when I moved to another country. My favorite feature is the timer. No need to have check a clock for some recipes. Just reach the desired point, put in the timer, and go play some games without worrying of burning your food.
The IKEA Tillreda only costs like 40€ Black person.
The problem isn't the price. I moved to a place that already came with a gas stove so there is no need (or space) for one. Such a cool little stove. I just wouldn't recommend it people with big families since you most likely will need 3 or more burners.
wow I figured an portable induction would be cheaper than my 90s electric stove top but even if it's 50% more efficient I'd only be saving like $7 to $14 a year.
water boiling is stupidly fast
heck it is faster than my kettle (i live in treeasiaticland which is a 220V country and i used it to eat instant noodles)
*cook instant noodles
and sometimes hot pot with my family
normally i just use double gas stove with a 12kg tank of gas
no
>press 3
its too slow
>press 4
heats up to 2000c in less than 5 seconds, burning your food
the on/off cycling is REALLY annoying. And it beeps like a motherfricker if you even flip up the pan to flip things. Its only good if you eat nothing but ramen and soup.
Get a gas stove instead.
Sounds like yours is a little too cheep for your needs anon. Mine was $30 too but I don't mind, I don't have the problem with cold/burning with the cycling.
Also I took mine apart and removed the piezo buzzer from the circuit board. It's fun and easy/ For ten dorrar I will remove the beeper from yours.
They're better than gas for hotpot or anything requiring just boiling. Get a gas one if you want to do stir-fry or cooking with a lot of heat control.
Oh and by a lot of I also mean any.
Even if the screen goes 0 to 9, induction has only two heat settings. Too cold and volcanic hell.
Maybe tech will improve in the future in not so expensive models
>can't use a wok
DROPPED
All the things induction is good at, you can do with gas too. Important things you can do with gas (stir fry, wok) are impossible with induction.
Not true, picrel
Bigger sizes get more expensive exponentially thought only downside
