are magnesium supplements legit?
its the only supplement that makes me sick.
i doubt its legitimacy i think its a made up pseudoscience story just like fluoride is good for teeth.

No. Your body needs magnesium ions to function, normally it's bound to hydroxypropyl methylcellulose in supplements. Some supplements also contain rice flour (because it's a cheap and contains magnesium), some people have noted that rice flour do upset their stomachs.

They come in lots of different forms. Mag oxide is common but poorly absorbed and not very useful. Glycinate and taurate are better, and maybe malate but I can't speak from experience. Some people report great results with magnesium l-threonate but that's a bit niche and pricey so I don't recommend it for the average person. Allegedly h2 supplements provide magnesium too but that's another rabbit hole.
It's undoubtedly important, and food has less of it than it used to so some supplemental form is a fine idea.

Hemp hearts are very high in magnesium if you'd rather get it directly from food

What kind of sickness? I also think magnesium supplementation has made me sick before. First I thought it was contaminated powder so I purified it. Still seemed to give me a headache and sometimes vomiting. Detoxing fluoride from the pineal gland maybe? I get detox reactions from some other supplements that are expected but I've never seen anyone say that for magnesium.

In terms of my detox theory, there are lots of lymph nodes there. Definitely makes sense that magnesium could at least change the balance of electrolytes and therefore affect the amount of fluid that wants to be inside vs outside your tissues and therefore the lymphatic system would come into play.

Don't take magnesium supplements unless your magnesium levels are actually low. Too much or not enough both put you in bad shape.
It's one of those minerals most people get plenty of from regular food, and deficiencies only happen if you're sick from something else like kidney disease or maybe a bad bout of diarrhea.

I'll take one if I know I haven't eaten anything with much of it during the day. Between that and supplementing potassium it's done me a lot of good as I used to frequently get leg cramps at night.

    >are magnesium supplements legit?
Do you have a dietary deficiency that means you need it? If so, then sure, they're legit. But it's not a common problem.
Your body does need some, but most people get all they need from ordinary food without doing anything special.
