Are steel cut oats really that much better for you than instant sloppa?

Are steel cut oats really that much better for you than instant sloppa? Looks like the sloppa has a good chunk of sugar and salt to preserve it.

I turn steel cut into a powder with a blender, add milk and protein powder and throw it in the fridge overnight. Works well and you don't have to cook it

IDK about nutrition but the way to make them is to put them in a pot of water on the stove when you go to bed and then cook it the next morning

I see a few youtube channels looks like you can just use a pasta jar if you are only making a serving for one

That's what I use. Can just throw it away if I don't want to clean it

steel cit oats have a loeer glycemic index and dont spike your blood sugar levels like ground oats. but both are incredibly beneficial for health

Rolled outs are better for you than instant slopper and cook in one tenth the time of steel cut

steel cut have slightly more fiber, and they are slightly harder to digest (which is a good thing, because it can then feed your gut bacteria)

You can still get quick oats without all the added sugar.

What do you do for taste? Spoonful of brown sugar and add some dehydrated fruit?

I've been cooking with my rice cooker more since it seems less volitile than the microwave

I just use whole milk but those syrup flavors for coffee and stuff work good too. Salted caramel with a generous serving of cinnamon is a good combo.

nah they're more or less the same. steel cut just takes like twice as long to cook

        >2 tbsp natural peanut butter
        >1 banana cut in slices
        >2 tbsp flaxseed
        >2 tbsp fiber supplement
        >1 scoop vanilla protein powder OR 1 square of really dark chocolate
        thank me later

My go-to is a tbsp of plain greek yogurt, tbsp of natural peanut butter, and some chopped up almonds and walnuts. I'm trying to eat as clean as possible though, so i know flavor-wise, its lacking.
Another good one is cinnamon and raisins(put the raisins in 2 minutes before you finish cooking the oatz, so they plump up) with greek yogurt.

Steel cut oats are a meme and take like half an hour to cook and they're still chewy. The brown rice of oats.

Instant oats cook fast as hell, but have no texture whatsoever. You might as well be eating gruel in a poorhouse.

Rolled oats/old-fashioned oats are in-between. They have good texture and only take 6-10 minutes to cook. Unless you're some health food junkie I don't see why rolled/old-fashioned wouldn't be your chosen method of breakfast slop.

I dunno where people get the idea that its a hassle to cook them. I just mircowave mine. 8 minutes at power-level 4 is enough to get them cooked perfectly.

I actually like the taste of oats without ten pounds of sugar so I just cook em in milk and add a little bit of salt and it’s fucking delicious

Can you eat raw steel cut oats like for granola

No, they're too hard unfortunately. It's why they need to be cooked for 40 minutes, if you try eating them even after 20 minutes of cooking they'll still be much too hard.

Steel cut or instant are the same nutritionally and neither should ever be eaten. Avoid grains and you'll be much healthier

Since zero people have actually answered the question, I will.

The difference and benefit is the glycemic index. Instant oats have a greater surface area and have the cell walls broken down, so it raises blood sugar faster and will digest quicker. Steel cut oats aren't, and thus will keep you fuller and digest more slowly.

I looked it up and steel cut is rated 53 and instant oats 83. But rolled is 57, so that's still a good option if that matters to you.
