Barq Barq

Why didn't anyone tell me this shit has caffeine added. It's 4am and I just want to sleep. They ban perfectly safe dosages of sassifraas extract, but this is ok??

it's actually called a pop, soda is a coastal malapropism

Soda has been a term of hundreds of years and was already well established lexicon before "pop" ever came into usage. The original term was "soda pop" to differentiate it from regular soda water.

        Therefore "pop" is the malapropism.

This brand is famous for the caffeine, though. You should have known that.

Also, it's a rare event that caffeine should keep you awake. There is something else wrong with you, such as sugar intake, irregular sleep times, or not enough activity and exercise during the day. You may be nothing more than dehydrated.

You can argue both "Soda" and "Pop" are accurate, but to call "Soda" the malapropism is just plain wrong. It was the original term, and when flavored sodas were first being made they were sold as "Soda" full stop. Pop came later, and while it did specifically mean THIS kind of Soda, it was not in and of itself a specific enough term to replace "Soda" in common usage. As evidenced by the state we're in today where "Pop" is in a shrinking minority and Soda territory continues to dominate from the coastal strongholds.

fake history as "remembered" by coastal elites
pop is the working man's term and always was
"soda" was a crude imitation of the word "southern", referring to Coca-cola, aka "that southern drink"

Wanna go ahead and source me? I can source you multiple examples of the usage of Soda going back to the 1600's at least.

Root Beers almost never contain caffine

Except for barqs, which always does unless you're in Utah, or using a coke freestyle dispenser (for some reason, no caffeine in barqs from those fountain dispensers, but regular old style fountain dispensers do have barqs with caffeine)

The mormonism of Utah eliminates the caffeine from the root beer

It's the barqs bought and sold there, not ones you bring in.

And Utah has Mormons, and they're scared of caffeine and managed to lobby barqs to remove caffeine sold in the barqs in their state. Though I think coke bought them and they started switching to caffeine only because the non-caffeine type sold in Utah was reportedly the worst selling soda of the entire coke product portfolio.

If you mean the amount of caffeine in Bang's I suppose (~22.5mg apparently), but if you are able to soundly sleep an hour after taking 100mg+ I would consider that the rare outcome.

I went to a late movie showing and had a x-large root beer and small popcorn. Movie finished at around 11:15pm. It was definitely a combination of the sugar in the drink and the caffeine. I rarely consume soda so I think the combo on a mostly empty stomach was probably not the move.

It probably felt worse than it was because I wasn't expecting it and it took me a bit to understand what was going on. I popped an L-Theanine capsule and managed to get to sleep around 6 (when my alarm was scheduled to go off). No yawns until 5 and I couldn't keep my eyes shut even with breathing exercises until around 5:30.

Yeah, it sounded familiar after I looked it up, but I don't drink much soda but when I do it's almost always other brands of root beer that aren't caffeinated.

    >love root beer as a child
    >thought real beer would taste similar, just maybe "spicier"
    >it tastes nothing like it, more like dirty socks
I do not understand how people drink beer by the gallon
If you want to get drunk just sip some bourbon, at least it tastes good

Damn I didn't know that either. Good thing I think Barq's is the worst root beer and haven't had it in over a decade.
