I eat steaks regularly, but they get boring. So I switch it up and eat sushi sometimes. I heard from a doctor I personally know, that parasites are actually quite beneficial for our gut flora. Maybe defrosting supermarket fish and eating it raw is not such a bad idea after all. The freezing process kills the parasites to begin with.

I think it would depend on the parasite. Some might offer benefits or just be neutral, but there are plenty that make you sick and some will kill you.

Unless you misremembered and he really said that certain bacteria is good for your gut flora, not parasites, he's not right

not him, but you can just look up studies that say intestinal parasites are not bad for your gut health. yeah i wouldn't eat something that is likely to contain a parasite that goes anywhere else in my body, but it's still not wrong in the right context

The right context being that parasites aren't bad for you as long as they're not the kind that are bad for you?

Well I mean it's true for bacteria as well that some may be particularly nasty but the majority that you come into contact with is fine and even necessary for good health somewhat.
When it comes to parasites we don't really have conclusive evidence showing that all of them are troublesome or not potentially beneficial even in some regards.
It's just that the one's which get into your brain and such give em all a bad rap.

The word parasite is inherently negative. If something is beneficial for you and itself, that's symbiotic, not parasitic.

Negative for YOU maybe, think of the parasites.

if it says that it was farm raised, then you can use it whether it was frozen or not. i've used wild fish that was frozen and it was fine as well, but you shouldn't use wild fish if it is sold as fresh

Where I shop, I barely trust their fresh fish even if it's cooked thoroughly.
Every time I try to figure out what fish I can eat raw though, there's conflicting information back and forth.

Fish has parasites-- freeze it and kill the parasites, or use any tuna, or farm-raised salmon and those won't have parasites. Okay, but then they say it needs to be high grade and freshly packaged so that it's not teeming with harmful bacteria. Okay, so use frozen fish that's processed and packaged and not sitting around developing bacteria. But then I've heard people say this can't be taken for granted either because the frozen fish isn't necessarily processed in a high grade way and it can just be frozen with a bunch of bacteria on it that doesn't die from the freezing process and it's expected that the customer will cook it.

I just keep wondering, how the frick does anyone make sushi then if it's so impossible to get safe fish to use?

do you live far inland? you probably just live in a spot that will never have high quality sea food. try looking into semi-raw forms of fish like smoked salmon or fish marinated in acid. that will give you a closer texture to raw fish without having to cook it

No. But sushi with cold or hot smoked salmon comes out orgasmic. I
Salmon is such a versatile fish. It tastes good with almost any way you can think to consume it.
