Why can't we have chippies in the US, lads?
Anywhere that sells fish and chips here, they charge $20 for em and the chips are often garbage.
What the frick. I'd love to try a real fish and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce, I would.

Based yank that knows the score. It's best with mushy peas and curry too.

This is the best I've had in the US. Fish was excellent, the fries (too small for proper chips, yes?) were quite good as well.
Little place right on the docks called Costello's in Noank Connecticut.

Looks like a great fish and chips (we don't distinguish between chips and fries, really). Although obviously not a chippy fish and chips, which is the best, imo.

          $?

$13, not bad at all, I'd think. How much is a standard serving in the UK?

            Nobody cares, britgay.

I'm not a Bong, that's been the thrust of my comments. If you know what a chippy actually is, then telling us the one you go to won't make you look like an idiot.

              >how much?
cod and chips for £4.50, haddock £7.50

OK, so still pretty overpriced compared to British standards, then. But not bad for US.

Bet it's not a proper chippy.

Checked and is global inflation so bad that Brits now have to make getting a fish & chips a special event?

Getting a chippy has always been a special event.

          >Getting a chippy has always been a special event.
          Really?
Okay. I mean I just stop at my local mom'n'pop gas station where they have fresh locally-sourced home-cooked catfish and chips every day for three bones.

        I'm in the northeast.
I'm not talking about a place to get fish and chips, you can get that lots of places. A chippy is a specific style of take away restaurant.
Post your favorite one so the Brits here can judge, eh?

$20 for fish and chips? Try not living on the coast butthole. I am in the Midwest and can get big plate of walleye and fries for $12 Or a whole catfish, dinner for $11 And I guarantee those taste better than any of the homosexual microplastic polluted ocean fish the brits eat.

We can on the coasts. I've never been without a fish and chips place within driving distance.

I live on the coast. Places to get fish and chips are easy. An actual chippy is not.

I'm not going to get into a thing about what is authentic enough for your autism. We have plenty of fish and chip places. Not even just on the coasts.

Dude, if you don't care about the difference you shouldn't have responded. That was the point of my post. I acknowledged within that post that obviously fish and chips are available in America, of course they are. I've had them here several times. But this isn't a fish and chips thread, it's a chippy thread and that is the reason I posted.

I've been thinking about it for a few days now, it's been so long since I last did, like at least 3 or 4 years.

My usual order is battered sausage and chips (with salt and vinegar), and HP sauce, but I've been thinking of trying something different. Maybe donner and chips with curry sauce?

I grew up in the indo-sino land of Canada and always had fish and chips with white vinegar, gravy, coleslaw/canned peas and a wedge of lemon. Do u rate, bongs? Don't reply.

Based, if your gravy like our gravy, or is it that stuff yanks have with biscuits?

        Anonymous

Brown savoury gravy, usually beef but sometimes chicken or mushroom
I've never tried the American buscuit and gravy, up until recently I only associated biscuit with dog treats or the French word for cookie

They like them undercooked for some reason. you're supposed to cook fries twice to get the desirable browning
