Stopped eating molluscs (filter feeders) when I found out what their job is.

Too much of that causes brittle beaks.
Humans haven't yet figured out what to do with the excess cuttlefish endoskeletons.

I love fish, but I can see why a lot of people avoid it. It's pungent, has thin sharp hidden bones, they're not cute like cows.
but god damn a piece of crispy fish skin is life changing.
there's lots of water-dwellers i don't eat though, like slugs, or urchins

The problem with fish is it smells to high heaven when it rots (yay oil breakdown), which is why people hate it. Thanks to modern freezing though we can keep this stuff fresh. And man, OPs pic is full of tasty things.

Urchins are disgusting. Tried em once, terrible. Caviar is super fricking salty, like damn. Do not recommend.

Squid/octopus are not worth it though - just chewy tasteless cartilage.

Depends on the crab. Lobster is perfect when grilled, and makes a mean bisque. But king and dungeoness crab are fricking out of this world good, and do beat lobster (but are expensive as frick). Especially smoked.

Really though, I worked at the meat/seafood dept and it was 64.95 per lb of king crab. Snow crab was 24.95lb... where a big lobster tail was 14oz for 15 bucks.

They aren't. Look at that one lump of clean white flesh and the flavor is mild. There isn't all the nasty organs and digestive tract nastiness to deal with that other shellfish have. Scallop is the boneless skinless chicken breast of the sea.

For a Christian, the bible is pretty clear about this:
    >Of all the creatures living in the water of the seas and the streams you may eat any that have fins and scales. But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales—whether among all the swarming things or among all the other living creatures in the water—you are to regard as unclean. And since you are to regard them as unclean, you must not eat their meat; you must regard their carcasses as unclean. Anything living in the water that does not have fins and scales is to be regarded as unclean by you.

I eat, unironically, about 15 mussels per day. One day people will look back like we do with oysters, and gawk that it used to be "poor people food". God I love mussels. The absolute KING of shellfish.

And the absolute KING of all animal flesh is crab. But is just so hard and annoying to eat, so overall points go to cow meat. But crab flavour is so good it's like a sweet flesh I love cutting them I half and sucking the head and body.

Pic is the kind of mussels I eat. In my country we don't have those weird black looking small ones I see in recipes. I just steam them and eat them either plain or with lemon juice parlsey and tarter sauce if I'm feeling fancy.

they're super easy to prepare and often relatively cheap, even at inland grocery stores. and you can tell right away if they're good at the store because if they're closed they're still alive. go grab a bag some time and get a simple recipe for mussels meuniere and a big baguette and chow down. i couldn't believe how easy they were to cook them the first time i did it. the only way to frick it up is to let them die in your fridge if they sit for too long or to overcook them. when they open up, they're done.

Most of my dad’s family lives in New Hampshire, we go and visit for a week or so every summer and always eat a ton of lobster and mussels for a couple days.
Crab is as good as lobster, in a different way. Mussels are better than clams. Squid is delicious, especially as fried calamari. Octopus is delicious and underrated, properly prepared grilled tentacles have a wonderful flavor and the texture is fantastic. Raw oysters are great, and pan-seared scallops are incredible too. Luv me seafood, simple as.

if you like oysters next time you're up see if you can convince your family to make the drive up to midcoast Maine. go to the glidden point oyster farm on the damariscotta river and shuck your own oysters and drink wine and beer at a picnic table next to the river. it's one of my favorite places in the world. i'm moving to damariscotta in a few weeks and i won't say the oysters aren't at least part of the reason.
