That does not look like correct storage. I agree with

Looks like these lids. I dont know if I'd trust plastic lids for pressure canning, but at least they're made in the USA. If you're referring to the lack of rings, they're not necessary once the can has been sealed. It can be helpful to keep them on just to help protect the seal, but it's not needed.

Yes, but it's not organised and it's a pain in the ptootie to keep track of things that are about to go off and will need using+replacing. I found a tin if fricking mackerel in the back cupboard last year that went out of date in 2014 or 2015, which means I must've bought it right when I bought my house in 2012.

It would have been fine to eat. You could have made a thread about it.

I did and it wasn't. I was tasteless to the point where the texture alone made it extremely unpleasant to consume.

Nope. I'm one of the few people who, to this day, has still not had covid, even once. And I never lost my sense of taste or smell at any point, either. An eight year out of date tin of mackerel ain't good eatin', no matter how ya slice it

canned food DOES NOT repeat DOES NOT expire.
it's only bad if the can is leaking or swollen. that's the whole point of canned food that it lasts for 20 or more years. longer if kept in kool dry conditions.

Maybe if stored in optimal conditions but people rarely do. There’s a wholesome New England autistic youtuber who tries to eat old food including lots of canned goods and it’s often gone bad. He’s called New England Wildlife and More. Not a paid sponsor by the way toobs
