The top 3 looks right. The rest of it is terrible. Mexican food is severely overrated. Should be number 40-something. French food should be in the top 5. Chinese food should be in the teens. US/English/Australian/New Zealand/Canada cuisine should all be in the same category and around 30 something. Poo food should be #100. Roach food #99. South American food outside of Mexico is pretty good usually, could be ranked higher. African "cuisine" is a meme and shouldn't even be listed. Israel's cuisine is just stolen Arab cuisine like the rest of their culture.
    Garbage list overall.

I also hated the "French Haute Cuisine #1" trope for a long time, but I believe our contrarianism swung our pendulum far too much to the other side and now rate French cuisine way, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too low for what it is.

I just wonder just how many people in the world actually tasted proper French dishes in their lives? Maybe once if they're lucky if they actually went to France and somehow miraculously avoided shitty tourist traps?

You see Italian, Spanish, Mexican, Chinese, Indian etc etc food literally everywhere in the world, but somehow you very rarely see French food internationally.

      Why is it unpopular?

      1. Is it too difficult to make? Are foreigners afraid to attempt French cooking?
      2. Does it taste bad? I don't think so.

        >but somehow you very rarely see French food internationally.
Baguettes, croissants and profiteroles and other assorted French pastries are found all over the world and are very popular.
French food has a reputation for being snooty and expensive hence it not being as widespread as the others you mentioned.
And as for the taste, I went to Paris had the steak tartare and absolutely hated it. I didn't help that the menu was in toot de la fruit language and the waiter was a unhelpful bastard

    >Japan #2
Coming from someone who eats Japanese food almost everyday, it's good, but not #2 good. Sushi is the only defining dish they have, all other dishes are basic or delicacies not even some Japanese people are willing to eat, e.g. octopus eggs.

Not to mention some other "Japanese" foods are just Japanese versions of Chinese dishes like nikuman.

I could eat katsu curry everyday, but I never had a craving for it or ever had a stellar 5-star oyakodon.

Japanese food is such a meme. I will say this, the Japanese are very good at marketing their food.

At the beginning I also never understood the whole hype for our cuisine as a Greek. Most people have probably only tried the tourist staples like souvlaki, spanakopita, greek salad and a couple more dishes because almost everything else is just standard grilled meat or something with intestines that I doubt most people go for. I have concluded that what makes a cuisine "good" is mostly having lots of dishes that are palatable and easy to make or inversely a few great dishes that require technical skill and time/effort investment. So in places like the top 4 you have a significant number of easy and delicious dishes to whip up whenever, then France where they made great advancements in the cooking arts but you need to drown a 4 colored bird in the pope's piss and broil it for 3 months just to have something edible, Germany where they make the best pastries but someone forgot to order them to cook their beef patties and everything else below is hellhole tier.

tl:dr lots of basic tasty dishes = good.

I rolled the unfortunate combo of being a massive weeb that hates seafood so that makes ~70% of their cuisine off-limits for me but frick me katsudon looks heavenly.

They only accept cash because they don't want to be enslaved by the Master Card israelites, and they give me and my dad like 3 free rounds of ouzo after dinner.
