Gyro is literally doner, it's not something different. Don't fall for cultural imperialism bro.

No brown hands ever made me that type of doner. Its always thin, meatless. I stopped eating it because of that.

in australia we call this a kebab and it typically comes with:
    >wrap
    >lamb
    >lettuce
    >tomato
    >onion
    >garlic sauce
and thats it. delicious and filling.
wish i knew how many calories were in them so i could start eating them again. havent had one since 31 dec 2023 (it was my last 'fast food' meal). have since lost 22.2kg.

would be better if they diced the tomato and onion
btw whats in that anon? is it just lamb, lettuce, tomato, onion, tzatziki? think i see some cucumber as well?

its a pic from a local place. its a beef-lamb mix, no cucumber but you're right on everything else. they put feta on it as well. and yeah diced tomatoes would be cool. their gyros are pretty decent quality for takeout. i've had better but what can you do lol, its the only gyro shop for at least 10 miles

i had a gyro in vegas loaded up to the breasts with spicy red onions once. it was OK but the farts i had the next morning were so bad they jolted me out of my hangover. i couldn't sleep in that stench

i see. i dont know much about "gyro", it sounds like souvlaki which is what we have in australia. ive had a couple of those but i dont know whats in them, but kebabs im very familiar with, which i described here

they're pretty much just kebab/donairs, i think us americans refer to them as gyros because most of our Mediterranean restaurants are greek

souvlaki is grilled on a skewer
gyros is the greek calque of doner, both mean to turn, it's the vertical spit thingy
yiros is what gyros gets commonly anglicised to here

Greek Gyros can also be made out of pork (and is usually the "default" meat for it). Donner shops usually dont offer that because "muh god".

And ironically it turns out to be one of the most tasty meats for it.

lol in my experience when i learn some bit of information like this, strangely it always has a way of becoming relevant soon after

like for example i learned that from reading that post too, and now i bet in 2 weeks from now one of my friends will mention kebabs or souvlaki and ill have a reason to bring that up

listen if your halifax donair is coherent enough to eat without a plate, let alone any notion of "wrapping" it, it's no donair it's just some shitty doner. Real donairs are just a fricking pile of meat on top of a stale pita bread that you can barely eat without getting all over the floor.
