I met this girl once who talked to me for like an hour about essential oils. She was really into them. Sounds like hippie shit to me.

I'm from rural oklahoma and virtually every woman in my family is all-in on the essential oils grift
it might be a hippie thing too, but in my experience it's at least as much of a thing for bible thumping conservative housewives who don't trust anything you get from a pharmacy unless it's insulin

i went to buy peppermint oil at whole foods. most of them are marked as aromatherapy only, but there is an "edible" version in a different aisle that contains alcohol. i don't see how that makes sense. i also bought a pack of mints that had peppermint oil with no alcohol yet it's edible.

idk, i think food grade oil is put through a different standard. i cooked with mustard oil that seemed to work fine, but then i realized that the bottle said "for massage only". i'd rather not consume things that have a higher risk of being dirty

true but the standards mean nothing considering the food supply is totally poisoned so i'm trying to DYOR

you're probably right, i think the damage from industrial oils is going to be similar to any unrefined oil that goes through the cooking process

There is no such thing as ‘food grade’ ingredients, not even when it comes to artificial/natural flavorings, dyes, or other industrial stuff. The main keyword to look for is Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS).

        >why is there separate edible and non-edible peppermint
because high grade mint extract is highly estrogenic and you shouldn't be fucking around with it unless you want to lower your sperm count and get gyno

with essential oils you basically have 2 ways of selling them, as food grade or for cosmetics. for cosmetics you just have to show that they are below a certain standard for carcinogens and afaik food grade is just harder to get. In general stuff like essential oils are pretty dependant on the batch and given that the ''test'' for them is only done once and submitted to your regulating agency its really hard to tell which essential oil is actually higher quality.

    what makes them essential?

steam distilled if it real, which nothing you buy is since Chinese synthetic shit is so much cheaper.

It's "essential" as in "of essence", not "essential" as in "required".

      > DYK essential oils aren't essential?
      > Hurr durr there's no such thing as toxins. Also your body filters them naturally, because everyone's kidney and liver are invincible and perfect.
      > Don't take vitamins don't work you just pee them out. At the same time they are dangerous you'll overdose!
      > Steve Jobs ate fruit and then he died.
      > Antivaxxers amirite?
      > Remove your genitals or else you aren't being your true self!
      > I am very smart.
      Go back.

This is worse than the whole "seed oils" bullshit. Different oils are different. Some of them you can drink, others will make you go blind if you ingest. You have to judge each on an individual basis, they are totally different substances from each other. Often you might as well use the whole herb or use scented oil.

My mom has a friend that buys them. So far, young living seems to be their favorite. I think they have an edible line along with one for only diffusion.
I've used several with food, usually in tea. It doesn't take much to overpower a cup.

this is the type of thing i've been looking for. just something to give a nice flavor/smell without poisoning me. it's weird how the first one is marketed more for internal use than the 2nd but the 2nd mention it also. they have the same ingredient

I don't know much about them but any difference is probably in the processing. The regular has the same description as the vitality, so who knows? Maybe there's more difference in the blends than the single ingredient oils.

I used clove oil for oral ulcers and it really helps with all dental pain a lot. I also used tea tree oil to apply it directly to cysts I got on my skin. This hurt a lot, but it also helped some of them.

I also ingested oregano essential oil I think. It might have been clove, whichever has the most antioxidants. You have to add like a shit load of olive oil to these things to ingest them. It was like 2 drops essential oil and 200 drops olive oil. even that made my tongue burn.

Oregano is brutal. I burnt a mole off with it. If you take it internally, definitely put it in capsules. I use a few drops if I feel like I'm getting sick and don't get any burning that way.

I jack off with menthol oil. It numbs your dick so you can goon for hours, very nice sensation. Originally I got menthol oil as a non toxic rat repellent for my corn shed, just every now and then soak some cotton with the oil and leave it near the cracks and doors of the shed keeps field mice out, but then I found out you can jack off with it.

an 80 year old bimbo serbian hairdresser told me to go to the shop up the street and tell them Paminka sent me so i did and they gave me rosemary infused castor oil and peppermint essential oil. i put toothpick dabs of the peppermint in my tea and put some on my radiator in the winter. idk if it's gonna give me liver cancer but it smells nice. the rosemary i put in my cat's ears when he kicks them and on my face after i shower. idk if it works but it makes me think of Paminka who said i was cute so i feel loved when its on my skin

The real hack is learning you can send a few drops over your laundry in the dryer and have the machine bake the scent of that oil into your clothes.
