i'm a slav and i only eat slavic food. i took inspiration from a journey to italy, where locals told me that eating foreign food goes against what they refer to as "mentalita". now, our food is probably a bit more modest than theirs but it's a good general guideline to live by.
that means mindset but i'm not sure what they mean. but basically italian food is good enough to never eat anything else your whole life
I don't think there's anything wrong with eating foreign food once in awhile. I do think it's important though to be good at cooking your own native food though to the point that you can put a personal spin on it and it doesn't suck
