European fanta is much better than the American version. I found a place here that sells the European kind, but only single cans. Are there any other European soft drinks that you’d recommend?

Amerimutt drinks are half sugar. I suffer.

    just looked up the difference

USA fanta doesn't even contain any OJ, wtf:

CARBONATED WATER, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, LESS THAN 2% OF: CITRIC ACID, NATURAL FLAVORS, SODIUM BENZOATE (TO PROTECT TASTE), MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, GLYCEROL ESTER OF ROSIN, YELLOW 6, RED 40.

12.4 grams of sugar per 100ml

Dutch fanta (which also contains artificial sweeteners btw, not sure if it's healthier than sugar, but at least it contains OJ)

Ingredients: Sparkling water; orange juice from concentrate (6.5%); sugar; food acids: citric acid, malic acid, sodium citrates; natural orange flavors with other natural flavors; sweeteners: sodium cyclamate, acesulfame-K, sucralose; preservative: potassium sorbate; antioxidant: ascorbic acid; carrot concentrate; stabilizer: guar gum; coloring agent: carotenes.

5.6 grams of sugar per 100ml

not sure about other drinks. i think they are mostly the same. I see that Coke in Europe has 9 grams of sugar per 100ml and in USA it has 10.6 grams of sugar per 100ml.

Soda is not supposed to be orange juice. If you want orange juice, just drink fricking orange juice. Soda is sugary junk food you drink as an occasional treat.

When I was in Scotland I once ordered orange juice with my breakfast and they served me Fanta.

See, now that is actually fricked up. It's only 6.5% juice and still has tons of added sugar and is not remotely close to orange juice. To be honest, it's probably worse that the inclusion of a small amount of fruit juice concentrate leads people to thinking it's literally the same as drinking juice.

imagine defending corn syrup chemical water

The point of soda is to be corn syrup chemical water. It's not healthy, no one thinks it's healthy, we all know it's bad for us, but we drink it because it tastes good. That's the whole point, it's an unhealthy tasty treat. Meanwhile, see the post I replied to above. It's better for unhealthy things to be decidedly unhealthy rather than for them to masquerade as something that could be good for you.

Why not? You're getting it when you eat fruit. Or would you add that fruit isn't good for you either?

When you eat an orange, you're not getting the juice of five oranges stripped of fiber.

the juice without the fiber is bad for you, is that so hard to understand? it literally has a different effect on your body depending on what it's consumed with, one will spike your blood glucose which is largely unhealthy, the other won't

That's because they call most soft drinks juice, you need to ask for fresh orange next time. Pretty fricked they didn't realise what you meant at breakfast though.

I don't like the taste of artificial sweetners. American soda is clearly divided between regular, which has no artificial sweetners, and diet (or Zero or whatever have you), which do, and I never drink diet. In Europe, you don't get that choice.

      >but muh public health system

Fanta was invented in Germany to get around luxury embargoes under Hitler
The version of orange Fanta we have in the US is essentially unchanged from the original recipe
The version of orange Fanta in Germany today is an Orangina knockoff
Therefore, Americans get real Fanta while Germans get discount orange fizz

Not European but close enough as British, Vimto is pretty great, kind of like a grape soda but with more flavour. Also irn bru, has a sort of vague citrusy flavour, but it's a take or leave thing for a lot of people. Tizer is probably the weirdest, it has almost like a menthol taste to it.
