i think the issue is when you have so many chickens crammed into a small space, one gets sick and then you can't stop it from spreading to millions of others. the issue isn't small amounts being raised by individuals.

Honestly my chickens have gone through 4 pandemics where they all get sick, some die and the rest pull through. I'm sure I can't sell them because of it but I started with 3 chicks and a rooster and 3 years later of feed and water and I've lost count of how many are in my propery.
I've never gotten sick from them either and I butcher them and eat their eggs

Unfortunately I didn't know who they were. They complained to the property manager but not publicly. The building I was living in had over 100 people so I couldn't find out who it was. Believe me, if I did find out there may or may not have been concrete poured into their car's gas tank.
But for the time I remained there before I moved, I made sure to tell everyone in my building who would listen about it. I got out of there and live in the country now, so there hasn't been any more problems.

My god, you a gay fricking moron. Those are coturnix quail, aka Japanese quail, and if they weren't STILL IN AN ENCLOSE THEY ARE JUST TESTING THE BOUNDARIES OF, they'd fly the frick away. The next most popular quail to raise, the bobwhite, aka the Virginia quail, will fly right the frick away if they get out of their encloses. With coturnix, you have a chance to grab them, but they'll figure out flying really quickly, too. A caged bird for life will figure it out pretty swiftly. Can they fly like an eagle? Frick no. Can they fly away? YES.

Glad you asked. Quail do not carry salmonella. Not in their eggs or their meat. So any time a recipe calls for raw egg, they are the go-to. Quail eggs are considered a delicacy/superfood as well. Since coturnix/Japanese quail lay 300 eggs a year and can be kept in small enclosures, the quantity outweighs the lack of size.

I work a farm in Wisconsin... tourist sort of farm. There are a wide variety of animals including chickens, ducks, geese, emu, turkeys; All the animals are spoiled and treated as pets. When the bird flu hits the die off is near 90% and lasts a few weeks. Fricking tragic. Every morning just hundreds of dead birds. You cull, wait and replace. Not much else you can do.

      Anonymous

How do you cull them? I would insist on a samurai sword and tee them up non-stop. Probably take Japanese language courses for authentic decapitations and lancing. "Gui morimoto kokisoto? Eh cluck cluck cluck?! Huuuuu-zaiiii!!! Banzaiiii!!!!!" And so on.

Firmly grab the bird at the top of the neck just behind the head, spin them around using their own body weight to snap their necks. Two rotations does it without the head coming of... most times. Easy fast and free.

Oh yeah, PS: You do not want to know what we do to racoons (it involves drowning them in live traps in rain barrels). Larger animals like horses and cows and llama we put down with an overdose of sedatives or a small caliber round to the base of the skull if they are in too much pain to wait for the vet. Harsh to an outsider, but practical for day to day opperations on a farm.

It's probably just the packaging or way they're shipped/stocked, but holy shit I can not buy a carton of eggs without at least 1/3 of them being cracked so much they look spiderwebbed. I have to stand at the eggs autistically switching broken ones out into different cartons to justify buying them anymore. It's not just one place I'm going to either.

I won't pay more than $2.50 a dozen. If it goes beyond that, eggs don't exist. Simple as.

I use maybe two eggs a week and would be perfectly fine dropping that to zero.

There are almost 400 million laying chickens in the US. How is culling MAYBE 1.25% of them going to take the price of eggs up 13 times what it is now? I could see it going from $1.50 to possibly $1.60 in areas close to where they're culling, but $20/dozen? You's trollin'.

Ignore this: it is globalist propaganda to try to get us to eat bugs. Bird flu is not real.

      >Ignore this: it is globalist propaganda to try to get us to eat bugs. Bird flu is not real.
Bird flu is real, and has been around for a long time. The lie is that it can jump to humans in a way that can directly lead to a global pandemic. They are operating on the (now proven) lie that a naturally occurring virus jumped from pangolins or bats to humans at a wet market and caused COVID. That's not to say that bird flu can't jump to humans. It's possible to get it. What isn't possible is for these interspecies jumps to result in such an optimized virus that you go straight from an edge case of a human with bird flu to a global pandemic that shuts down the 2024 election. Not that they're not going to do everything in their power to make that happen.
