Has anyone cooked with picrel before?

Has anyone cooked with picrel before?
It says 5 servings so I assumed there'd be 5 cubes in there but it's just one massive cube
Elsewhere I saw that you should make 2 servings per person
If I just want one portion for myself, how much of that block should I break off? And should I just freeze the remaining block?

      See picrel

Half a box is for 5 servings moron.
      >one massive cube
Why make a thread about something you haven't actually seen?

It says 5 servings on the front, I assume that's for the whole box

It's a bar like a chocolate bar, except it's curry mix. There are 5 sections that break up easily inside the tray.

I opened mine for you to check. Mine is 220g/12 servings. It's also S&B. It has two separate sealed containers each with small sections like

I eat curry by myself mostly, but you just make more and eat it for two days.

It's one massive cube that breaks up into 5. I forgot if there's markings but if you flex it it should break into the right amount of pieces.
    t. someone who cooked this 2 days ago but has 5 minute memory

open the box homosexual it has the pieces in a breakaway setup.

golden curry fricking slaps. i make this for my dad. he had cancer twice and is super scared of getting it again so he won’t eat meat as close to no sugar as possible. he can’t taste much anymore so he doesn’t like a lot of the stuff he used to. i have to cook very special stuff for him.

i make a vegetarian curry with this stuff. i use the whole box and he will save the leftovers and eat it. i’m sure you could make your own from spices that’s better but this is really
    good for what it is

He’s right though. Not feeding meat of any kind to your ‘dad’ is akin to a death sentence by slow starvation. You’d be better off feeding him meats with hot peppers, garlic and other antifungal herbs and vegetables. If you feed him any kind of sugar, make it raw honey. That stuff can’t be digested by cancer fungus.

You think fungus causes cancer? That’s a new one for me

Don't buy the palm oil cubes
You can make a better product with literally just butter, spices, flour, fruit and stock
You have all this stuff on hand anyway and it takes like three minutes

      >Has anyone cooked with picrel before?
Yes. It's a brick that breaks into segments like chocolate. The segments are on the container, and it is soft enough to pop through the container.

I guess you would pop in into segments if you were doing a 1 pot meal for a single serving and hated leftovers. Personally, I always make curry in a stockpot so I get like 6-7 jars of curry for leftovers. So I end up throwing two of the normal bricks in to make it. It's just easier to do with a single pack of meat and onions as big as we get em here. The jars nuke up super easy, just slap over fresh rice and pull out some naan. Makes for a quick dinner depending on your rice selection.

It's a roux cube, so you can fridge/freeze it no problem after you open it.

Yeah you can make a roux yourself, but it means making a separate pot dirty to make the roux to add at the end (because you need to brown it significantly, so adding it straight doesn't work as well). The bricks are nice because you can make curry in 1 stock pot. Plus I ignore the "add water" and add stock instead.

OP here, turned out decent but not worth it over DIY considering all the additives and shit in it

How are those cubes different than the good ol' curry paste? Is it some mix of stock cube + curry powder?

Japanese curry is fricking flavorless goop. I much prefer Indian curries. A lot more piquant flavors with complexity and just an overall more enjoyable experience.

I suggest going for this Indonesian picrel stuff instead. A funny thing is that a Thai dude in Chinatown NYC turned me onto it.
