It's not worth it, since those apps became a thing there's less 25-50% discounts at the store.

it can be a hit or miss. some can give you a shitload of good food. many near me even let me just pick whatever i wanted if i came in early. most of the best restaurants sell out in like 30 minutes tho so it's worth figuring out when they post

This, and it really varies depending on the city.
You'll soon realise if it's worth it or not at your location.

check out olio app. similar concept but it's mostly supermarkets, though sometimes also things like starbucks/pret a mangers. they've got volunteers to pick up food that expires that day and then they post it on the app and you claim it for free. it's mostly ready sandwiches/wraps/salads etc but i've even gotten steaks a few times. saved my life when i was almost homeless. often was even given a lot of additional things than i'd ask for on the app when i told the volunteers that i've got lots of flatmates cause they said even with the app they have to still throw away like half the food cause not many people know about it

I have noticed that the vast majority of food offerings in my area were bread and bagels even a gelato place I thought I was gonna get a great deal on only gave bread I didn't even know they sold. I'm beginning to think most food waste is bread

Nobody likes bread anyway. Why else would Americans treat wheat, yeast and flour with bleaching artifacts, colorants, and sugar-pseudonyms?

GF tried it, aways got some bread based stuff, usually worth the 4 bucks it was.
It all depends on what place you pick

most places sell out fast, bread ends up being the only thing that's almost always available

It's really worth it for me, paying for bread 5€ a week instead of 25€ is really good. Even for some dinners or lunches always saved me and my family started it using it during covid now almost twice a week.

bread only makes sense when it's fresh. real sourdough is the only bread that doesn't go to shit after 2-3 days

        Anonymous

There is nothing that preserves sourdough over traditionally yeasted dough in any way shape or form

          Anonymous

it's common knowledge that sourdough bread doesn't go stale as quick as regular bread. we're talking about non industrial stuff from bakeries that don't use frozen shit and just bake fresh bread every day obviously

i always used the same spot near me. they had one offer in the app around 1pm and then another around 7pm about an hour before they were closing so I'm guessing they were making it fresh twice a day. first time i went there i was expecting to get some shitty sushi with mostly veggies but after showing them my phone with the order they just told me to pick any sushi platter I wanted. i'd go there at least twice a week afterwards and it was always like that. i always came early so there was plenty to choose from including one's that were big enough for me to share. and there were people still going in and buying them for the normal price lol

you must to better grocery stores than me than kek. all the staff was asian speaking broken English so I took that as a good sign. I'm not some sushi expert but for a poorgay like me it was great

I am not Asian. But the only Asian I know is always laughing about how white people think that just because a Hong Konger is preparing their sushi they must know what they’re doing.

Sushi is 90% learning how to roll it into shape using the funny bamboo pad. There isn't much skill it's all just technique. So a hong konger makes as good of sushi as any.,

you gotta check it around the evening when everything closes. i remember downloading it for the first time and all I saw were people offering like a half a bag of sugar and shit, forgot about it for months and then i accidentally checked it at the right hour and there were hundreds of listings from supermarkets. it depends a lot on location, i'm from london and there was plenty of listings around me every evening

dunno why you consider it trash as if it's rotten as soon as they about to close but they give out free shit as well

This is true. Dumpster diving is 100% free. I saw those videos. Those waste spelunkers came up with some palatable stuff. Whole, virtually uneaten subway sandwiches with but a bite on the side. How did an opulent society like ours ever become so wasteful??? It is a mystery for the ages.

                Anonymous

i've been getting free sandwiches from that app (fully packaged too, not bitten lol) for free and the volunteers there were telling me they still waste a lot of them. I'm not even some green activist but the amount of food that's being wasted is crazy to me

I am not Asian. But the only Asian I know is always laughing about how white people think that just because a Hong Konger is preparing their sushi they must know what they’re doing.

I used to use them back when I lived in a city that wasn't small as shit. It's only worth it if you pick out the spots that actually give you a good amount of food. Any place under 4 stars isn't worth the trouble since you'll probably get moldy stuff at that point. Bagel places are usually good, my best haul was like 20 bagels for 5 dollars.
