Why don't you talk with a nutritionist or do nutrisystem?

what a moronic thing to say
nutritionists are useless but not because they're spouting bullshit. it's because everything they can teach you, you can learn in an hour from reading a book for free off libgen instead of paying $100/hour for some uppity dickhead to tell you to not eat cookies for breakfast

"Nutritionism" is not a real science, and if you ask five of these jokers what to do you'll get five different answers. Half of them will push stupid meme diets. and maybe one of the five will give you good advice.

you have to understand the difference between social media grifters and actual licensed nutritionists who went to school to learn how our digestive system functions. nutritionists can be legitimate, but if you found them on TikTok or YouTube the likelihood that they're legitimate and not just a shameless grifter peddling nonsense fad diets to teenagers and soccer moms is definitely low.
real nutritionists are too busy making stupid amounts of money from rich people and athletes to waste their time making videos for tiktok, and they also don't like to give away their knowledge for free when their job is literally to charge people for it.
but the reality is that you don't have to understand a lot about entropy and enthalpy and thermodynamics (the basis of nutrition science) to understand how to eat healthily and any old moronic Culinaly user like me can go to libgen and spend an hour figuring it out to benefit myself for the rest of my life, for absolutely free of charge. so nutritionists can be legit but are also pretty useless to anyone with a wrinkly brain

              >licensed
              >one google search later
Oh, well whaddya know, some states have licensing regimes for it ! Learn something new every day I guess.

(My state doesn't, anybody and their brother can legally call themselves a "nutritionist" here, and the term is basically meaningless.)

honestly being licensed isn't even that important as far as we're concerned here. not like we're paying customers. i mean, you can tell within 30 seconds whether a "nutritionist" is actually educated or not. like you already mentioned, the majority of people who call themselves nutritionists don't actually know anything about it and are just grifters.
there really is a science behind nutrition though. of course there is. why wouldn't we be studying how our digestive system works? nutrition is a basic foundation of biology. living things cannot function without energy input.
                https://libgen.is/book/index.php?md5=54D97D25D6D9C5CE93964A258E5C73DE
check this out if you're interested. a scientific nutrition textbook, they start off talking about thermodynamics.
understanding it to this level is not necessary for healthy living though so most people don't bother explaining any of this even if they are educated so even the legit people can come off reddit-y. it's all about making the information digestible to the layman, otherwise it's useless still.

Dietician is more likely to be a protected term than "nutritionist"

i guess so, maybe. depends on what sphere you participate in i guess. i'm used to the term "nutritionist" because i come from a sports science background and everyone in my field of sports uses the term. nutritionist has been co-opted by tiktok moms eating meat and cheeses but it's still the most accurate term for me, it's nutrition science not diet science. we should call the grifters dieticians and the scientists nutritionists, makes more sense that way

    - count calories
    - eat 500 calories less
    - MOVE, if you sit on your ass all day you gonna feel like shit (i.e. sleepy, low energy) and lose weight very slowly
Make sure you eat balanced diet. That's all you need.

Specifically for Breakfast I would reccomend low-fat Greek yogurt with a tablespoon or two of ground flax seed, a sliced up apple and then some berries or other fruit.

    >Eat a variety of foods (proteins, grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy) for a variety of nutrients
Not only is a balanced diet important but a varied diet is also important. Lots of people who eat "healthily" fall into the trap of finding their comfort meals and just eating the same shit every day. This obviously leads to deficiencies and imbalances, which can make you feel bad in a plethora of ways. Fatigue, lethargy, slowed reaction and cognitive function, increased irritability, etc. So:

    >Eat multiple types of foods to avoid fatigue (eg a variety of cereals/oatmeals topped with variety of fruits and nuts, variety of meats, cheeses, breads)
Don't just eat a ham sandwich with lettuce cheddar and tomato on rye every day. That's not a bad lunch but it's not everything you need. Different meats, breads, cheeses, etc all have different nutrient values. Switch it up. Turkey on wheat with swiss. Roast beef and pepperjack. You get the idea.

    >Moderation is key for snack foods
Junk food should make up at most 10 to 15% of your calories. Junk food isn't completely worthless; the carbs can be valuable and some junk food is made out of healthy shit with some nutrients still left in it but it's negligible. Many athletes like a sugary snack right before competition for a quick carb boost.

    >Eat Clean (ie whole foods, minimally processed)
A ham and cheese sandwich with vegetables on it is better for you than a ham and cheese hot pocket. Processing food typically leeches nutrients and replaces it with filler in favor of profit over nutrition. Try to eat as many whole foods as you can, cook your own meals as often as possible.

tldr the key to a healthy diet is to consume a variety of nutrient-dense foods from the five basic food groups, those being fruits, vegetables, grains, lean protein, and low-fat dairy and other calcium-rich foods.

      BASIC ~1800 KCAL FOOD PLAN:
      >1 and a half cups of fruit per day
      >2 and a half cups of vegetables per day
      >6oz of grains a day, at least half of which are WHOLE GRAINS
      >3 cups of low-fat or fat-free milk/yogurt per day; 1.5oz of hard cheese is the calcium equivalent of 1 cup of milk
      >Five 1oz equivalents of meat per day; 1 egg = 1oz of meat, 1 tablespoon of peanutbutter, 0.5oz of nuts such as almond
      >Daily goal of about 48g of whole grains per day (for heart health)
*Due to high levels of oxalic acids that bind calcium and hinder absorption, certain vegetables such as spinach, collard greens, beet greens, and swiss chard are not optimal sources of calcium

This is an optimal sports-nutrition based diet for the average sized male. This is not necessarily a weight loss plan, though you WILL lose weight following this diet while being healthy doing it.
Depending on your daily maintenance, you can adjust the above diet according to your caloric needs. If you've got 40 pounds to lose then I'm just going to assume an 1800KCAL diet is more than plenty of a deficit for you to lose weight.
