Get a mushroom ID book for your area, don't worry about needing to ID every mushroom you come across, but do try to ID some of them conclusively (there are surprising not many species of mushrooms compared to other organisms imo, if you leaf through your ID book a couple times you'd be surprised how many mushrooms will start to look familiar)
Whenever I find a mushroom I also usually google "*mushroom* look alikes" just to be sure also
probably bait but mushrooms are very calorically dense, so you're realistically only taking a small portion of food from some fungus gnats

2) when looking for type 1) shrooms there is one who is bitter, don't eat that.
3) the best ones are porcini and bay bolete, carefully study how they look like and other characteristics.

Also they grow in fir forests, you can spot them on google earth when setting the time to winter. They will be green.
