I don't know if it was just my transition from being a teenager to being an adult, but I feel like Applebee's, Sizzler, Outback, Red Lobster, all those casual sit down restaurants went to absolute shit circa 2007 or so and none of them ever quite recovered.

Olive garden is still ok if you get one of their endless slop options, and they're owned by the same parent company as outback. Not sure what happened to the industry though, you're right that it's significantly worse than it used to be as a whole.

That same company owns Ruths Chtis and it kinda sucks now. Steaks are fine but the sides are cafterea level. Wife got crab cakes and it tasted like tuna. Prices are still high as frick though

Their menus are all the same, too. At some point, every US chain restaurant stopped selling classic side vegs like carrots, green beans, peas, etc. and just has squash and broccoli. I found an old takeout menu from Outback from like 2017 and it blew me away how large, varied and diverse the menu was compared to post today's. Now it makes sense, if they're all owned by the same people.

Yea every place is owned by like 3 companies no variety anymore

I don't know if it was like that before but basically everything on the menu now comes in frozen and is reheated. I used to really like the battered chicken crispers at chilis and figured they must be the only thing on the menu that they actually cooked there. about a year ago they removed them from the menu and now only have breaded ones that I'm sure are frozen.

Ruby Tuesday, Olive Garden, Outback, Applebees, it's all the same terrible salty slop
The last time I went to one such establishment was at a company outing. We went to Longhorn Steakhouse. My steak was charred to shit, my asparagus was flavorless and my mushrooms tasted like they stirred in 3 tablespoons of salt for funsies. Thank frick I didnt end up having to pay for it.

Anyone who calls something "slop" or "goyslop" I just imagine as a chinless dork wearing glasses and a fedora. You're the dumbdick going to a restaurant for a grilled steak and paying triple for the experience.

I hate the use of goy slop too, but what they served me was shit look at it esp for a man of my caliber

        Anonymous

You're not a man of any caliber. You went to outback steakhouse because you didn't want to grill your own steak and shrimp. Then you hopped on this, antique milk crate collectors forum, to complain they didn't make it how you mumbled to the waitress.

I'm on a mission from God to get people to stop going to restaurants when they should be cooking food from home. If everyone made restaurants a once a month thing instead of 15 times a week thing they'd fix their prices, fix their quality, and actually try to attract customers instead of asking sysco to make a cheaper frozen food.

Did you send it back when the waitress brought it out and that it was burned or overcooked? You didn't. You ate it in silence. She even came by to ask if everything was alright, you smiled and told her yes everything is great. Then you tipped her. You can't even stand up for yourself and you say your stature and caliber is fine. You should feel bad about your meal and worse about yourself.

There's nothin better than grilling your own steak. Half the fun is just grilling the damn thing

If only we could incorporate power tools into grilling.

They know the Culinaly market EXTREMELY well, they know how contrarian and jaded everyone is. Shitting on your own product is a genius way to market here.

              Anonymous

You've got it all wrong. We're contrarian to outsider opinions but very in-group preferential. If they want to shill outback the correct formulation would be
              >normies hate outback but they're simply not fvcking bvsed enough for the bloomin onion. dyel twinks can't handle the raw power of the straya c**t barbie
This frames outback as the choice of discerning neets and gymcels and presents eating there as a countercultural, rebellious act. OP is the opposite of this. He's saying "normies think outback is good but it turns out it's fricking bad" which is true and the picture given in example is extremely fricking dire even by chain restaurant standards. No one alive sees that and says "let's go to outback to own the libs" or whatever. Doesn't work that way.

I remember when Outback had "prime" steaks that were actually dry aged in-house. That was over 20 years ago, though. They had a little box in the back and the manager let me go look at it since my family was a regular and I was the only kid who would order it. I got to watch the guy trim off the rotten bits. It was really cool.

Is dry aging legit or a meme?

        Anonymous

Legit if you've got money to burn. I love it, but I understand why many people do not love it. It is not an acquired taste, you either like it or you don't. You'll not have a more tender steak in your life, though.

          >It is not an acquired taste, you either like it or you don't.
Except that's exactly how acquired tastes work, this statement is nonsensical.

No. I liked beer the first time I had beer, which was when I was four years old. There is no such thing as an acquired taste.

Never cooked, got hired for a new position they were trying out, server assistant.
        >fill drink orders and bring them
        >stand at the window and expo food and then bring food
        >pre-bus other tables on the way back
        >repeat
If there was two or more of us (they later hired a couple more) it was a pretty decent job, tons of free food. One night some to-gos didn't get picked up, i got two sirloins, a filet mignon, a few salads, and the brownie dessert (thunder from down under?)

I was in a parking lot with Outback and a Dollar Tree the other week, and it was packed on a Friday night. This was in a big commercial area with a lot of nice bars, it wasn't a food desert. I don't get the attraction

      >I don't get the attraction
It's the same attraction as TGI Friday's or Appleby's (inoffensive low-priced slop with alcohol for forced group meals) except you can get a rare steak if you want, and 5% of every purchase goes toward the Emu Extinction Fund.
