I used to think that way when I first started trying to lose weight and get healthier. But the issue is just refined sugar, and refined food in general. It's hard to gain much weight eating beans and fruit and nuts, but refined starch/sugar/oil made into cake makes it easy.

With almost any other food there's evidence of it being both good and bad, but I've never really seen any evidence of fruit being bad.

        Anonymous

Refined starch is fine if you don't slather it with fat. 100g non-cake bread + tomato/cabbage/thin slices of cheese/herbs = very filling and tasty.

the issue with fruit is that nearly all fruit we actually produce in modern times theres no nutrients whatsoever.

        Anonymous

That's a common issue with a lot of crops today. They're bigger and sweeter and starchier but the overall nutrient content hasn't gone up so it's like the nutrients have been diluted.

100g of dry pasta or rice are 3.5 servings of grains. 11 servings are a normal amount for moderately active men.

That was just an example. It's not difficult to have 11 servings of grains with bread, pasta, rice, tortillas... and that's ~1000kcal. Although that is the upper limit of recommended grain consumption, which is why few people reach that much (I do btw).

I ate an entire 500g pack of pasta with shredded chicken breast and tomato paste over a day because I needed glycogen for next day's workout. Mind you it was hard because starch is filling.

            >Yes, half your calories should not come from a single food group
Why not? Most of my kcal comes from wheat, about 360g is protein, and the rest is vegetables + tbsp butter to fry lean meat in + half a can of anchovie-stuffed olives.

              1. Personal anecdotes mean nothing
              2. That is an excessive and unreasonable amount of food
              3. Most people dont food prep like that, eat repetitively like that, or "need glycogen"
              4. Youve refuted none of my points
Didnt read the rest of your post.

                Anonymous

You've presented 0 points, except "it's unreasonable" and "they just shouldn't". It's in fact perfectly reasonable. It's a bit over 1500kcal from starch, and about 50g protein. Let's add 300g chicken breast, raw. That's about 60g protein, and 300 more kcal. So you've covered your protein reqs, and you're 1800kcal in.

"Men who are moderately physically active (who do exercise daily that's equivalent to walking 1.5 to 3 miles at a moderate pace) should consume: 2,800 calories at age 18-25. 2,600 calories at ages 26-45. 2,400 calories at ages 46-65."

You have 600 more kcal of vegetables to cover bioactives. Humans need about 1.6g of essential fatty acids a day, so that fits into kcals nicely. Add some liver or eggs for micros. Nothing excessive or unreasonable.

                >food prep
It is extremely easy to boil pasta, fry some chicken, and dump a can of tomato paste and a packet of herbs on top of it. It takes about 15 minutes.

                >repetitively
Sub rice with pasta, potatoes, bread, barley, buckwheat, quinoa, beans, any other carb. Sub chicken with any lean meat/fish. Sub tomato paste and herbs with another set of veg and spices.

                >"need glycogen"
Most people don't "need fat" beyond several grams of essential fatty acids either.

Are you perchance an obese woman of color or some kind of thirdie? You argue like one. No facts, just feels and "but it's too hard to boil pasta!!"

I'm not sure because your moronic burger measures but 100g of dry pasta (average portion is 80/125g) is already 4 servings of grains.

if you then eat 125g of bread you get 9 servings of grains

100g of dry pasta is common serving size of pasta (you very likely get more when you eat pasta at the restaurant)
