Same. My mother likes to bury anything I buy in the back of the refrigerator so that I forget about it. Last month I found an entire head of cauliflower that had melted into fungal soup, sitting behind her two boxes of donuts and a pack of paleolithic bacon.

never. i eat whatever is in my fridge, even if i'm tired of it. it pisses me off because i can afford to waste food but i can't bring myself to do it

I cut out the middle man. I buy vegetables, and as I walk out of the store I throw them away. saves clean up.

Constantly because my dad brings home food that's too expired to serve customers where he works. I used to feel bad until he told me that he had to throw away dozens of boxes full of dragonfruit because the head chef is a moron. I try to consume anything he buys, however.

Mostly green stuff for me, but I’ve got this one apple that I bought a couple months ago and never got around to eating that’s just slowly shriveling up.m (curious if it’s that Apeel coating in effect).

Seems a shame they would freeze the stuff or convert it into something else, was there anything you really enjoyed?

I once left a plastic bag with tomatoes sit in my counter for two days on a hot day
When I found them they were part mold part slurry.

Veg? Never. Fruit either. I have this gay ass tortoise I found and like. He eats everything I throw. Often the plants I don't want him to, as well.

Ooops, I forgot my pic. Get a tortoise. They live long. There are way too many. They need owners. They'll outlive all of us. Just toss em your fruit n veg instead of your compost pile you never do shit with.

kek that c**t is living the dream. I'd use most of that though instead of throwing it out. I couldn't feed him on onion skins and egg shells

I try not to. Usually what expires is stuff like herbs, mushrooms, etc that go bad quickly. If i have a can of something and dont finish it, it goes in the freezer. Ive got coconut milk, tomato puree, and tomato paste in there right now. Also various meat trimmings that i can use for stock or rendering fat.

          You use egg shells?

Do they need love/attention/veterinary care a lot or can I just put it in a big pen in my backyard and give it rotten vegetables?
Also what do I do when winter comes, it will freeze solid, do I just lock it in a room with more rotting vegetables?

you're over feeding that tortoise, the excess growth on his shell is proof.

When the same things often start growing mold or bad, I put effort into trying to prevent it.

I had grapes that went bad, so now after some time I'll freeze the rest. I've noticed that I don't eat the chicken I make fast enough, so now I'll freeze half of it for the next week. Same with fresh chicken broth. I precut certain veggies and freeze them now. I store my citruses, potatoes, garlic, and onions in better conditions now. After some time I'll move the bread in the fridge. I use more acid and salt in certain foods now.

My concerns usually start after a week.

I'll use a carton of eggs a month or two past its expiration and cut around the mold on the cheese. That's about it. I throw my homecooked leftovers out if it's past a week and a half, depending.

fungus is easily the weirdest form of life on this planet. we feel an instinctive revulsion to it because it's so much of an "other" to us.

So rarely that I can't remember the last time it happened, besides milk once or twice over the last couple of years, but when that happens I use it on the garden.

For me the most common thing I wasted were bananas. I would eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches when I was younger, now I use them in breakfast shakes. The 5 or 6 bunch I would bring home would be over ripe by the time I used the last two. Now when I bring them home I'll peel, halve and freeze.

all the time i guess. when i see it's expired i throw it in the can. unless it's something with a lot of sugar or salt. then i eat it.

Constantly. I get decision paralysis and my entire fridge is just fricking filled with mouldy shitty food I should have eaten. Soon I will purge it all and the cycle will begin again.

my local grocery store sells older fruit and veggies for super cheap in like 3lb bags, and often a bit of it will go bad on me because its in such bulk i couldnt eat it quick enough. Sometimes if i make too much rice or mashed potatoes the last bit will go bad on me before i get to eat it. Otherwise, i try hard to not waste anything.

Probably one piece a week. I started composting about a year ago though, so I just chuck it into the compost bucket to be moved to the pile outside. Now I don't feel so bad because it feeds the worms, frogs, and animals outside. With any luck they'll drop a big ol' duece in the pile as a thank you. Then grow more food with it. Circle of life my friends.
