      Silly urbanite. It is a edible crop. This year, I planted a small part of my garden with them. So I could get fresh and clean (no dog poop, pestizides or other pollution) nettles. I like to use them sonetimes in salats. But mostly use them for tea and nettle beer..

      Is that stinging nettle?
      I add it to stews and soups sometimes because it's free. I just have to go pick it.
      Not something I'd want to pay money for in a shop, though.

      I have a few hemp plants that grew from the birdseed I throw on the back lawn. I don't smoke the stuff and I reckon it's low THC anyway. Been thinking of making pesto with it just to try it.

        I'd use the seeds rather than the greenery. If you do decide to swap hemp for spinach, use a shitload of garlic, and save the pine nuts for something you're more likely to enjoy. Walnuts and almonds go better with marine iguanas anyway.

    It's good to see another nettle fan! This is my patch, as you can see it's well harvested but that's one of the great things about nettle, it always comes back stronger. How big is your patch? What do you most use it for?

        If you eat it raw it stings, but the leaves are what you eat mostly and they are the least stingy part of the plant. Cooking it at all removes the sting entirely. Flavour wise it's similar to spinach, just generally green tasting with a slight minty hint but not in the menthol direction if you get what I mean.

        As for uses, we use it as a cooked green like spinach and also make tea with it. It's very high in iron and my wife has chronic anemia so it helps a lot. Here I put some in a batch of pickles I made this evening.

    One time I went to alaska after i kayaked in the Colorado River and was sleeping in this abandoned van i found in the wilderness and ate some plants i mistook for edible and then got really sick and then I died and they found my journal... So I guess my point is to be careful

    nettles are ok, but you need to saute them a bit, you don't want to eat it raw and have rash all over your mouth
    I sometimes put them in omelete

    I've made tea and tinctures from it, but all the soaking and fermentation is a bit of a pain in the ass when I've got beets, collards and garlic-mustard growing.

    It's a weed that tastes like generic plant material. I don't exactly love it.

    I did have a gazpacho made out of it once with toasted sun flower seeds and beef bacon. It tasted like baseball, and that was pretty cool from a nostalgia standpoint. Other than that I think it's kinda shit.
