Did you know sweet potatoes are actually a type of morning glory? Pretty crazy huh

  4. 3 weeks ago
    Anonymous

Same, it's the texture, I wish they were fluffy like normal potatoes instead of weirdly almost slimy.

      Anonymous

That's because they're morning glory roots, not potatoes. They only look sort of the same but they're not in the same plant family even.

Whatever they are they suck and it makes me very angry that they are so good for you and I am missing out on easy nutrition.

Try getting some real potato plants and eating the fruit off them (not the roots). Those are tasty.

Potatoes are not the roots of tomatoes, no. They're similar plants though.

She's probably seen a ketchup-and-fries plant where they graft a tomato plant onto a potato plant, using it as rootstock

boil them, and fry some onions garlic and cherry toms. add herbs of your choice and blend together, bam. delicious soup. add greek yogurt or cream if you're feeling decadent

this is v good, i make a similar thing except i start cooking skin on chicken breasts in the pan first, then take them out when they're done and the fat has rendered. use the chicken fat to cook the alliums, then cut up chicken chunks to put in your soup. i usually do a 60/40 ratio of sweet p to carrot for the helf, top tier dinner and lunch the next day

Yams are yet a third potato-like plant that's not a potato. They're in some other family called Dioscoreaceae.

Yams, sweet potatoes, yucca, taro and potato beans aren't potatoes but are similar to potatoes.
Also, if potato bean is native to America, why don't any Americans eat them?

Long yield time. Upwards of two years before its worth harvesting. Makes a poor substitute for potatoes in terms of economic worth.

                these are actual yams.

yams are rarely eaten in Japan. Yellow and purple sweet potato are much more common.

The higher starch content white sweet potatoes are much better, and cook much closer to a regular potato, as in they will fry up crispy

Raysis here. Three different black ladies taught me how to make their own version of sweet potato pie.

If you taste authentic sweet potato pie, you will later start cooking and eating sweet potatoes. You just will and they're a healthy dish generally.

i think a lot of sweet potato people make have the problem of being sweet or having no spices. sweet potatoes with spices are good. i used to make a hash with sweet potato, pepper, tomato, onion and runny egg and a bunch of seasonings.

They're too sweet for me. If they were cheaper I might mix them with real potatoes in a mash but I don't see a point to it as it is.

i have no evidence to support this, but i'm assuming you're both american, and american food produce is always like 5x sweeter than anywhere else. in the countries i've lived, in europe and asia, sweet potatoes just have a subtle sweet note to them not much stronger than say carrot

Their more nutritionally dense then regular potatoes. I use them to make thick sauces for beef or pork. Essentially sweet mashed potatoes. Took me awhile to like the taste. Sweet potatoes are something I really understand why people don't like. They expect their potatoes to be starchy and savory not sweet.
