I miss when you could get a McChicken, fries and a large drink at McDonald's for $3

Dollar menu kept me going through minimum wage work. I'd always get a mcdouble and 4 piece nuggets for $2.16. Then go by Walmart for a 30 cent can of sam's choice soda from the vending machine out front.

Back in college, whenever the rare opportunity arose where I'd be completely shitfaced with my buddies but a stray person was sober enough to get McDonald's, I'd get a McGangbang. Sometimes I'd get a small order of fries and/or a dollar sweet tea with it, but it would usually just be the McGangbang. Kino drunk slop for less than $3. This wasn't even that long ago - I'm not even 30 yet. I have a well paying job now but I would never pay almost 7 fricking dollars for just a McChicken and a McDouble.
      Frick inflation and frick McDonald's.

Yes and the dollar was actually worth its weight back in the day, back before trillions of dollars were printed out practically overnight to keep the angry mobs at bay. Now if you’re lucky you can grab a pack of chewing gum if it’s on sale at Wally mart for that same price. Shits utterly fricked beyond repair.

The Domino's in my town was a Long John Silvers. Then it was an antique store, a clothing store, and a satellite dish store. Then Domino's took over the space and have been in that same old Long John Silvers building for thirty something years. My parents say the Long John Silvers itself only lasted a couple of years, so it is really a LJS building when 90% of its life its been used for selling pizzas?

The people who grew up in the 90s and 00's are the problem, speaking as one who grew up in the late 80s and 90s. They're the ones who continue going to McDonalds because they never grew up, but now demand the McUpscale Salad because of Instagram peer pressure. Our parents took us to McDonalds because they were too tired from driving us to soccer practice and dance class to even put a frozen pizza in the oven and needed us to jump in a ball pit so they could take a break. They new the food was pretty shit, but just well-spiced enough to stomach. McDonalds chased this demographic up the quality chain as they grew up, milking them for all they're worth because none of them ever learned what real food is.

Corps never cared about you. It was always about the money. The only reason you got a playground at McDonald’s is because if a parent had to choose between watching their screaming bored snot nosed kid at any other fast food joint or sticking them in a ball pit and getting five minutes of rest, they choose McDonald’s everytime.
Also little Jimmy would scream to go to McDonald’s for their playground, toys and burgers but now parents are looked down on for feeding their kids McDonald’s and McDonald’s has been blasted for advertising to kids. So now there’s no need for the ball pit.

Why do the modern designs look vaguely Brutalist with the harsh angles and muted colors? Is that intentional? I thought everyone agreed that Brutalism is the worst architectural style of the 20th century. Something about turning whimsical hedonism palaces into harsh utilitarian spaces is really disconcerting.

Brutalism simply means exposed concrete, nothing to do with these blocky shits.
The reason they all look like this is because it's easy for McDonald's corporate to sell the building after a restaurant fails.
You can open a different kind of restaurant in there (or even different type of business) and it wouldn't look weird.

        Wrong as always, child.

        >Brutalist buildings are characterised by minimalist constructions that showcase the bare building materials and structural elements over decorative design.[6][7] The style commonly makes use of exposed, unpainted concrete or brick, angular geometric shapes and a predominantly monochrome colour palette;[8][7] other materials, such as steel, timber, and glass, are also featured.[9]

It's cheaper, faster and easier to just build everything back at the manufacturer warehouse than it is to build the thing from scratch on site.

this is why all commercial buildings from like 2010 onwards look like this

they pre-cast the concrete walls and then transport them to the site and just align them and fix them in place

instead of transporting wet concrete to the site and then going through some arduous process of pouring and setting the concrete on site which is much more technical, expensive and time consuming

i'm not arguing it lacks soul but this is the future of construction, people are opting to do this with new houses as well for the reasons i've discussed

If you’re already by a historic downtown area, there’s probably always going to be restaurants/bars n shit.

Gets spooky when we have no chance for that. There’s condos near me that are right across from a walmart plaza, same shit is being built about 5 miles away. It’s all in proximity to a new massive Foxconn chinkscreen factory, so all of the new housing is basically to breed/house new workers.

also brutalist design is ugly. they claim it's more efficient and less harmful to the environment but what it's really about is to create an ugly world and praise ugliness because god made a beautiful world and much of gods creatures and creations are beautiful, satan hates not only because god sent satan to hell to suffer but it is jealous of gods power as cannot create but merely make crude imitations of gods creations and destroy so it seeks to make the world an abomination unto god

I actually really like brutalist architecture, when it's worn down and nature creeps in. Something about the combination of lifeless concrete and greenery is super appealing to me. Maybe it's just because it was prevalent where I grew up, I dunno.

I miss their salads. They ostensibly got rid of them due to disruptions caused by COVID, but they never brought them back. Remember how much McDicks cared about the uproar after Super Size Me came out? – That was when they pivoted to "healthier" eating, and now they have just gone back to before the days before they even pretended to care about consumers' health. However they never returned to the ball pits and shit. Frick McDonald's.

A while ago I suddenly remembered they used to have BBQ grilled chicken burgers. I had totally forgot about those for years. So I went to McDicks and had them do one up for me. It was like $6 CAD, and it wasn't exactly the same, but I shed a lil tear when I was done. They hadn't had the grilled chicken for several years, too. I'm glad they brought that back, at least. For how long tho idk. I have a feeling the selection and quality will just continue to shrink going forward.

if they had a ball pit, kids today wouldn't use it. They would just keep playing on their phones. Have you ever watched some kids try to play outside lately? They literally don't have any clue what to do. They will stand around and awkwardly kick a ball back and forth for a few minutes before going back inside to play video games. They literally don't know how to play.

The highest murder rate this country saw was in '91, mostly because of gang wars that peaked at that time. It decreased since then and set record lows many years, people attribute that to multiple things, the crime bill (thanks biden literally, if you're right you're right), better medical technology, cell phones making ambulance response time far better, there are explanations besides just improving conditions but that probably also played a role

things currently have deteriorated badly enough to overwhelm all of those other things and the murder rate is rising again

The reason they look like this is because of pre-fab construction.

It's cheaper, faster and easier to just build everything back at the manufacturer warehouse than it is to build the thing from scratch on site.

this is why all commercial buildings from like 2010 onwards look like this

      >The reason they look like this is because of pre-fab construction.
It's not. I've seen these buildings being built and they're made with steel beams and some sort of panneling. Concrete construction is rare in the US and almost exclusively reserved for high rises.

        Anonymous

pre-fab construction isn't necessarily of a concrete design homie, other terms for it are modular design.

I know this isn't an article in the u.s. but i'm right anyways.

        https://www.portakabin.com/gb-en/case-studies/mcdonalds-200th-modular-restaurant/
        >The Elland Road modular restaurant was the 200th construction project completed for McDonald’s by Portakabin.

        >Constructed off-site in a quality-controlled factory environment, this modular restaurant was craned onto prepared foundations in just a few hours. It was delivered complete with all catering equipment, signage, glazing, heating, plumbing, ventilation, ceramic finishes, joinery and internal walls pre-installed. Less than two weeks later, the restaurant was open for business.

What if they made pre fab buildings that weren't so ugly? Like Sears used to sell houses that were built from a kit almost like a Lego set and they weren't fricking hideous. This house was built from a kit.

different time the 50's elites had less control of the West at that time this was

and kit homes were the equivalent of just having pre-cut wood and nails supplied for you, you still built it on site

yeah, powered hand tools killed kit homes. they only made sense economically when the alternative was a hand saw.

There are definitely nice prefabs designs. The thing that cripples them is the insulation requirements. You can't have complex cladding because all the weight in the panels/walls has to go towards insulation.

People also don't want to repaint wood every 5 years and repanel every 10 so you get natural classing.

My point was that the architecture has nothing to do with saving money. They could just as easily build a prefabricated building that doesn't look like a grey cube.

            Anonymous

my point is you are wrong and the grey cube is very simple and easy to build in a factory and if you read what i quoted they can install these things and have them up and running in 2 weeks when they are done with modular design (pre-fab)

also i dunno what you think commercial buildings are made out of if you think concrete is only reserved for sky scrapers

when you go to wallmart or lowes run your hand against the side of the building...

today I will remind them that capitalist corporatatons always raise the costs every time there is a crisis (low share returns, Corona, inflation, recession, etc.) and never lower them back, even though their public language implies it would be a temporary measure. also, the trend of soulless facades is simply because that material is probably easy to find, not bespoke, and can easily be modified to slap a logo on the side.

Culinaly was better. Vidya was better. Comic books were better. Books were better. Star Wars was better.

No matter how much Disney shits on the franchise, the phantom menace was still shit anon. I'm sorry it hurts.

At least Phantom Menace had the ending sequence. What even happened in episode 2 other than emo Vader and Jango landing/taking off in the ocean city?

the Arena scene sucked, it was so forced.
and "clones vs droids" is the perfect analogy for the whole lot of nothing anyone cared about going on

besides, what actually happened outside of scenes. episode 1 was at least doing a lot of world building- even if the plot was boring, the world it was setting up was pretty interesting and important for Star Wars lore (because back then no one cared about extended canon). whereas episode 2 was primarily doing a lot of tedious setup for things everyone already knew was going to happen

Is the one with Natalie Portman showing off her abs and ass in that arena? I can go for that.

It was amazing seeing an army of Jedi fighting in live action. And LOTS of people cared about the EU back then. The books and comics were super popular and KoTR was a only a year away and incredibly hyped up. But yeah, Episode 2 is easily the worst of Lucas’ six movies.

IMO, even those #4 and #5 in running order and as horrible as they are, were better than anything disney did with them. Except for the ending I liked #6, friends and I were laughing through a lot of it, it should have been listed as a comedy.

On a jollier note #6 is the only one that during thr movie I didn't fall asleep. I've never been able to watch any of them but to fall asleep, they're that boring.

Sure, but it’s miles better than anything Disney has made. The pod racing scene and the Darth Maul ending fight are miles better than any of NuWars movies or shows.

I pushed a kid down thr tunnel once cause he was an annoying little b***h who was crying and blocking everything. He fell out into the balls on his head and screamed even more. I thought I'd finally get in trouble for years. Never happened.
