Most people probably hate tomatoes because they've only had gritty flavorless underripe ones.

store-bought ones are night and day compared to ones that you grow yourself. i used to think that tomato haters were moronic man children, but i am more sympathetic for them now

Aww yeah, growing some tomatoes for the first time this year and you got me extra excited.

I like them but I live an extremely unhygienic lifestyle so they always rot before I can finish them
I keep putting off cleaning the fridge even tho it has mold now, I even his away some rotten stuff in the fruits and vegetables at the bottom, I Know that's not sure tight, it's been weeks

Start small if you need to, I really hate cleaning mold but you feel better once it’s gone.

Agree. I was a picky kid and dad once locked me outside with a tomato and I wasn’t allowed back in until I finished it. It was a mealy disgusting specimen. I was around 9, didn’t try another until I was away at college and found they’re really nice when ready. I have a few varieties growing myself now. [...]

        >Been craving a BLT since January... soon
What happens between now and BLT (besides making or buying it)?

You wait. A BLT is only worth eating when tomatoes are in season. And at that point the BLT is the only sandwich worth eating. Lettuce is much more forgiving in seasons. Bacon is bacon- but NOT the star of the show. Fresh seasonal tomato is the key to the ideal sandwich

listen. Green tomatoes are really good on their own. Nice and crunchy. Split em, sprinkle some salt and pepper on em... yammy.

also this. The ones I pick from my garden are so flavorful. I have people try them in the summertime so they can know what real tomato is supposed to taste like.

Those are also great sliced up with just a touch of salt.

Tomato does not need onion flavor to taste better. This would be nasty.

My dog loves them, too. Whenever I start slicing one up, she gets right near my feet. I always cut up some chunks from the end slices that I would normally discard and give them to her.

pity store bought tomatoes taste like nothing and are way too fricking expensive.
better off just growing your own, but then you're subject to only having tomatoes for 1/2 the year and having to do mad mealprep shit like making a year's worth of bolognese sauce at once and freezing it

I just commented before I saw your post. My dog loves tomatoes too. She smells when I'm slicing them & will stand by my feet, bc she's used to me cutting her up some chunks.

Reminds me of the sandwich I made for work yesterday
    >cheesy bread bagel
    >sliced turkey
    >swiss cheese
    >thicc slices of tomato
    >thin slices of onion
    >lime flavored tortilla chips
    >mayo and hot sauce
Perfection. The tomato did kinda dominate, but in an excellent way.

i can't cook without tomatoes. They are phenomenal bases for lentils, dals and curries. Ofc they work great as simple salads as well. I am brown btw.

There was a variety I found in upstate New York in 2021 and i cannot for the life of me remember the name but it was the size of a cherry tomato and dark, dark red and tasted like candy.

Based, OP. Do you also drown them with black pepper like me?

I love cherries, vine-ripes, heirlooms, sugar bombs, etc. Beefsteaks are the only kind that I don't really care for, as they are too tough/hard & their flavor tastes off.
I picked up a haul at Publix recently and added some plum tomatoes. I don't think I've actually tried plums before. What's the best way to eat them—just regular by themselves w/ salt & pepper?
