i always buckle to my alcoholism in the summertime due to tonic water. it's so dry and refreshing with gin and grapefruit bitters and gin really does make you moronic in excess

Quinine is actually pretty good for you in small amounts. I get this fancy tonic water that’s made with real quinine and real sugar. It’s called Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water.

I buy bottles by the case and it's still prohibitively expensive. I feel like an butthole drinking two espresso tonics a day.

I thought the same before trying it. They're great. Now I have to buy 24 bottles at a time.

Can someone redpill me on quinine? I think tonic water is pretty tasty but the rumors around that stuff put me off
I know they used it to treat malaria, but it's supposed to be toxic.
How much is too much per day and per week?

You're not going to get quinine poisoning from drinking damn tonic water

Modern tonic water has the tiniest amount of quinine for taste. It was somewhat dangerous back in the day it was actually being used for medicine. It won't protect you from malaria anymore though.

one of my history teachers said that when he was young, he drank a lot of it over a couple days. one day he woke with a massive headache and a very loud ringing in his ears that didn't go away for a while.

odd that anyone likes the quinine flavor
you add gin to make it palatable
and if you don't like your G&T, add more gin not more tonic

Anyone know a brand you can buy in the US that does not have sugar or other sweeteners? I like the flavor, but I don't want the sweetness. I'm tempted to make my own, but I'm worried about over extracting the quinine.

Never seen it unsweetened. I think quinine is like cranberry juice - it is unbelievably strong, without being cut and sweetened.

Kroger brand diet tonic water seems to be unsweetened

I love it. I've drunk it, straight, all my life. Even when I was five or six, I'd snag the little glass bottles, that my folks kept for company and drink them instead of soda. I veer back and forth between Schweps and Canada Dry. Fever Tree is slightly better, but not for the price.
