I tried Duvel, Guinness, Reissdorf Kölsch, and a local amber ale and they didn't…

What causes this? Do I hate the taste of beer?

Try Harpoon IPA in the glass bottles. It is brewed in Vermont. The canned version is brewed in South Boston.

Probably, unless lagers are the secret key to your heart.
Even people who like beer typically dislike either stouts or ales. Can't be having with ales at all, myself.
No big deal. You gave it a more than fair shot.

They're saying they didn't like IPAs

I assumed the second list of beers was stuff they also disliked but just didn't have the weird IPA shit added, because saying "here's a list of beers I thought was okay, do I hate beer?" is a pretty psychotic statement.

You're drinking expired beer. With more hop-forward beers this means the hops lose their freshness and take on kind of a flat bitterness. With more malty beers, the alcohol flavor can actually mellow out over time, and they generally just wont see much degradation since they lack the nuance to begin with.

Sounds like you don't like the flavor profile of hops used in IPAs. Try porter next. Thats a good beginner beer.

It depends on the beer. I don't like Duvel because the phenolic profile in most belgian ale tastes like bandaids to me, but I like IPAs. Everyone likes guinness, you definitely don't like beer if you don't like guinness.

You tried mid tier IPAs. The better stuff is more niche and depends on your personal taste. But I like ales and stouts in general, so it could be you. Lots of people say IPAs are gross and taste like sucking on a pinecone. I like pinecones, personally.

Overuse of Cascade hops. It's a pretty common failing of american "craft" beers.

It just means that you dislike hops and like malts. I recommend trying more Belgian als as they tend to have more diverse flavour profile.

It's been a while since I had an IPA so I got one from a local brewery and it just tastes very "herbal" but not in a good way, I think I just don't like hop-forward beers, though I've tried old-style macro IPAs didn't dislike those
