I want to get a nice bottle of peaty whisky to celebrate my promotion, but I don't have any experience besides a couple tastings and liking it. I think my friend had pic rel. what does Culinaly recommend in the <$100 range?

all great choices. welcome to islay gang, best whisky gang
my favourite whisky of all time
This is the best.
Are you a manager now? I don't know your industry, but congratulations on the promotion.
yessir and thank you
thanks anon, I'll probably get the lagavulin. happy to hear more recommendations as well
does the store you're going to have a big enough selection where the scotches is separated into the different types of scotch? if it is they'll probably have designations for a couple kinds of the scotch. there's 5 in general but islay is the one that has the most peat flavor
it's a total wine so yes it does, I'll stick to the islays and try a few over the next couple months
what do you think would be a better option for a beginner in the lagavulin price range? would
be it? I want it to be special and I'll probably try one of the big three as well, maybe the ardbeg
the flavor and mouth feel of peaty whisky was jaw dropping, I thought the same until I tried something actually good
>total wine
just tell them your Islay noob and that you want to sample a few.
>I want it to be special
whatever you get will be special, because for that price your options are limited.
the name brands are good, but you should look at the Independent Bottlings they have for the same price if you want something more out of the ordinary that wont run into everyday.
also dont be a homosexual and buy an Octomore or Ardbeg with no age statement lest you be lumped in with redditors and middle aged women.
heard on buying anything without an age on the bottle, thanks anon. are there exceptions to that rule or just stay away?
few exceptions. now ain't the time to deviate.
thanks anons I'm going with the ardbeg 10, cheers
If you like the 10 I'd try the Ardbeg Corryvreckan next - it's the 10 on steroids.
never understood how that works when Corry' has French oak and the 10 in pure ex bourbon.
The younger the whsiky the stronger the smoke flavour and the rougher the overall whisky though. Some want that.
The "big three" are Laphroaig 10, Ardbeg 10 and Lagavulin 16. Lagavulin is much more expensive than the other two and I would not consider it better than the other two - I consider them all sidegrades from each other.
You already know what Laphroaig tastes like - sweet, smoky and maritime. Ardbeg is like campfire smoke with a little pineapple. Lagavulin tastes like smoked oysters.
For the price of Lagavulin I'd much rather have Longrow or Springbank.
Watch the Ralfy reviews on the ones your thinking about getting. He will give you good insight.
I don't understand how whisky being more peaty is a good thing. It's what makes it taste like paint thinner.
This, but the exact opposite. It's what makes it not taste like paint thinner.
Weak shit like Monkey Shoulder, Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Johnnie Walker tastes like paint thinner because it doesn't have enough flavor to cover up the paint thinner taste.
Get the Oban 14
