Is a Costco membership a waste of money if I live by myself?

Is a Costco membership a waste of money if I live by myself?

The amount you'll save on gas will pay for the membership

this. i also buy cereal, milk, eggs, bread, pasta noodles, ground beef, paper towel, toilet paper, bottled water, socks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, wine, liqueur, cleaning supplies. i could go on and on but the gas alone pays for the membership and everything else is a bonus. costco is also the cheapest way to eat out. $2.50 for a huge piece of pizza and a drink or $1.50 for an oversized hotdog and a drink.

Costco is worth it for the food alone

        >milk, eggs,
These were both more expensive than other stores when I checked recently. I used to save a lot of money on milk especially but not anymore.

Well yeah, no one walks to Costco, how are you even going to bring home the food?

I usually just ride a bike there when I pick up prescriptions. You don't need a membership for that

      See

Depends on what you buy there. I reclaim my membership money in gas savings, and I get stuff like chips, paper products and meat at mine on the regular.

I recommend touring it to see what your local one stocks. If you like nothing, it's not worth it.

If you can get gas there regularly it will pay for itself. You'll also save a fair amount on non-food items like detergent, toilet paper, etc.
Consider as well the savings from Costco Rotisserie Chickens and the Costco Hot Dog.

Didn't the previous CEO say he would murder the current CEO if he ever ended the food court combos or increased their prices?

        this was the combo pizza
it had bell peppers and olives
now they only have pepperoni and cheese

No, it was if they ever raised the price of the hot dog and soda. To cut costs, Costco now manufactures their own hot dogs instead of subcontracting them.

the non-perishables like paper towels and soap are probably a good deal if you have the space for it in your flat, but any food you buy is guaranteed to go bad/get old/get boring before you can eat most of it.
and from an experience side its pretty soul crushing to walk around a giant featureless gray building with 5000 other buttholes as you peruse 20lbs bulk sausages and 55gal drums full of cheesey corn balls.
its better to just go to a normal fricking grocery store and buy a pack of strawberries than it is to go to the consoomer warehouse and get a dozen multipacks because they're 10c cheaper. but hey choice is yours.

There’s a promo for new members on the basic gold membership, as far as I can tell it’s currently $60 for 1 year basic and you also get a $20 gift card (on various sites) but I’ve seen this deal in the past with a higher value gift card.

They have less alcohol now? I'm in a state with no hard liquor in Costco, but their wine selection is always good.

costco literally cuts me their rebate check which is more money than the cost of the membership itself
