Depends on your budget, how much you like Japanese Wagyu and American wagyu, how much you care about your health, whom you're cooking this to amongst a whole lot of other factors

When I get American wagyu, it does not look like that. It's way closer to the one on the left.

Why not just get some prok chops on a baquette instaed of dealing with some japanese bullshit?

The American Wagyu looks fine. Good amount of fat and nice red meat.

Go for the real a5 if you have the budget. The knockoff is no better than a decent prime steak but 50% more expensive. Get some prime dry aged beef instead.

How is American Wagyu not authentic? Wagyu is a cow bread and unless American Wagyu is a different bread, then it's literally the same race and therefore authentic.

it's not the same breed at all. Australia has some legit wagyu cows though

      You answered your own question.

Jesus you can't stop yourselves from stealing everything from the japanese. World leaders my ass, how pathetic

Dont be sad, at least hot dogs are truly American.

American wagyu is generally a crossbreed of wagyu and angus cows, so it is actually different, but OP is also falling into the moron trap of pretending all wagyu is A5 meme shit when most of it is just beef, Japan!

Yeah but the Nips sodomise the cows and give them blowjobs and feed them tonnes of maggots and natto

"American Wagyu" is often (not always) a crossbreed of Angus and Wagyu and is definitely not the same as "real" Japanese Wagyu. Most of its reputation though is just that you only see A5 stuff outside of Japan, which is of more importance than the actual breed, as other anons are saying.
That being said, if I want a steak to eat for dinner because I'm hungry, I'd actually pick the traditional supermarket American Wagyu. A5 is just so rich that I'd be sick if I ate as much of it as I do other steaks and eating that much fat in one go just becomes a little overbearing after a point. A few pieces are great for a snack/appetizer though and I'd say definitely worth trying at least one.

        >snack/appetizer
        This
Do it once to say you did, once that is out of your system, go for good heritage breed pork belly if you want solid protein goodness. Texture and taste is so much better on the pork.
The richness of A5 is almost overwhelming. Anything more than a shared app is overkill.
        t. Carnivoregay and I can't get through an A5 alone

It's weird, you can eat 4 ounces of A5 and have a salad and feel completely full, then the next day you want a double cheeseburger

      >authentic Wagyu
Worth doing once. Expensive as frick, but it is a literal mind melting experience.

      >cheap American knock-off
Meme. Won't taste the same, no where near the marbling, fat is just meh beef fat. Not worth the cost. Only worth it if cheaper or on sale.

American "wagyu" is a literal cross-breed. They took the cattle from Japan and cross bred them with Angus cattle. And they DON'T do any of the special care/feeding they do in Japan. It's a completely different product and you are being scammed for higher costs.

I've had all the variants, there is a major difference between American, AUS, and Japanese.

there's also a5 in america you realize? that's just a misleading picture. it's like holding up "italian 200 dollar steak" vs "american 5 dollar steak" and the italian steak looks nicer, is your assumption that america can't make good steaks? Don't get me wrong, americans are all degenerate losers that can't do anything right, but don't be a weasel about it

americans are the most intelligent and productive people on the planet. you can cope and seethe all you want. you wouldn't have to spread all the anti american propaganda if this weren't the case. the purpose of the propaganda is to try and poach our smartest people by claiming some socialist shithole like yurop is better quality of life

A5 isn't a grade in America, but otherwise your post is spot on regarding how moronic of a comparison it is.

    >Should I go for authentic Wagyu or the cheap American knock-off?
the dirty little secret of A5 wagyu is that while super tender, it has about as much flavor (maybe less) than filet mignon, American raised "wagyu" has way more flavor and is still very tender.

I have tried real Wagyu, and others American raised "wagyu" and prefer something like Snake river farms Wagyu. though truth be told Prime angus taste better than all of them.
