Is probably right. For everyday food I'd go for Korean over Japanese, it's just way more varied. But on the high end Japanese has a lot more to offer.

big brain and all correct. t. spent many, many years in korea+still cook korean every day. spent lots of time in japan and some time in vietnam.

vietnamese food was better than i expected though. i'd say since 2015 korea has better japanese food than japan has good korean food. korea towns in japan were just fricking weird, tourist-trap stuck in time places. i spoke to them in korean and they didnt even speak it almost at all.
korean and japanese raw ingredients are generally a lot better tasting than north american stuff, even boutique/"local" produce and meat. so re-iterating this post - i always found korean food was really good ingredients cooked okay with no special technique as great time-tested combinations. japanese food had a tendency to rely on industrial/processed flavourings but at its best - i had several mind-melt moments in japan, though its generally more expensive. also korean restaurants are much more comfortable, even if they tend towards very casual, almost mall-ambiance.

Japanese is goated. Thai nearly ties for first, though. Vietnamese has a narrow menu in my opinion (for anything good). Chinks are the sloppa kings. And Koreans do soup or whatever? Koreans def on the bottom either way.

he's not wrong. like japanese the constituent ingredients of many korean foods are more or less the same, and yes that does include gochugang/gochugaru

that being said i like the boldness of korean cuisine, you can never go wrong with heaping servings of garlic, sesame oil and soy sauce

Chinese food == Chili oil + cheap tasteless veg + starch
Japanese food == bland and watered down non-spicy version of chinese and korean food.
Korean == inbetween both but red chili paste instead of chili oil.

      >Chinese food == Chili oil + cheap tasteless veg + starch
That's just a trivialized version of sichuan cuisine. Cantonese or Beijing cuisine are completely different for instance.

the best western food i had in asia was in beijing. maybe it was due to diplomats having been there, or simply being a capital. but it was great. city itself though is like a bureaucrat's office from the 1960s, never cleaned and filled with smoke.

The real problem with Koreans except for their arrogance is that they think that they invented hot peppers when those are native to the americas.

korea, japan both excel at hearty, belly filling dishes to get you through a harsh northern winter. japan takes the edge thanks to maxxing out dessert
vietnamese cuisine is bursting will all the flavor of the jungle, topping off an already complex bowl of soup with a huge variety of herbs never gets boring. I have to give them the top spot of the three OP asked about.

    10/10 dishes from each
    >Vietnamese
    Bun bo Hue
    Bho kho (with baguette)
    >Korean
    Kkanpunggi
    Sundubu Jjigae
    >Japanese
    Unadon
Not really fair to Japan as most of the "Japanese" dishes I've tried are actually western inventions. My favourite of the three is probably Vietnamese but mostly by virtue of it being ubiquitous (and therefore competitive) where I live

my opinion on korean food has changed a bit recently. korean pancake > okinomiyki. bibimbap is also delicious. i like that Korean food can also be made vegetarian quite easily while jpanese foods over reliance of seafood makes it rather annoying.

    Japanese food >>>>> Korean food

      Anonymous

Most japanese foods aren't even japanese. Sushi came from south asia, japanese yakiniku is from Koreans, ramen is from chinese people who moved to japan, tempura is from portugal, curry is from india, etc...

When you weebs and coomers say japanese foods, nearly all of it is from other cultures.

        Anonymous

You know, if you really think about it, all japanese food is is this: Take foods (noodle soups, bbq, side dishes, etc) from your neighbors (china, korea, se asia) and replace chili oil/pepper paste with miso and mirin. Basically a weakened version of the original to better suit the smaller stature of japanese who can't stand tougher spices. This is also why it is more readily accessible by western palates because its more in line of mild foods that the west eats.

Japanese food (just like everything else Japanese) is definately more autistic than the other two but that doesn't necessarily mean it's superior. More autism /= "better"
Anyway, the real best one is India

        >Anyway, the real best one is India
Sometimes a man just wants sloppa. Can't fault a man for liking his sloppa. Even if it's objectively shit and therefore not the real best one.
The best part of my argument is that while you could have argued it's subjectively not shit, you can't debate that it's not objectively shitty. Because it's indian. kek
