Is unlimited sushi a bad idea if it's just..."fine". Nothing special, maybe even somewhat lackluster if you hold sushi with particular reverence as a delicacy.

I think mediocre sushi is still pretty good

The only sushi I think needs a warning about is the stuff at a buffet that sits out for a while with nobody grabbing it. Premade gas station sushi can also suck, its all made overnight and is really old by the time its purchased.I hate to say it but Costco sushi suffers the same fate as premade gas station sushi

I've been to sushi buffets that were extremely busy and very high quality. The buffet environment doesn't necessarily mean the food is old or low quality.

This entirely depends, but in my opinion even mid sushi is good. There is an asian market called t&t close to where I live that have a little fresh food market and their prepackaged sushi is honestly way better than most of the restaurants in this city. I usually get 2 6-piece salmon nigiri's and a banana milk juicebox for ~$10, really hits the spot.

I love sushi and have had it all over America and it's always been edible. I've never seen rotting fish once.

The way sushi usually fails is the with the rice. Poorly made sushi rice is usually way too chewy and not seasoned well.

So I've had both mid and terrible pussy (as well as the good stuff).

Terrible pussy will taste bad, like fishy rot type bad. This happens from places with terrible quality control and no standards. It's rare, but happens.

Mid pussy is what most "cheap" places will have. Mid pussy is flavorless. It's safe, doesn't smell, but somehow is completely devoid of flavor. This is sort of what grocery pussy tends to be too - just flavorless protein. This is also what tends to populate the conveyor belt pussy places and buffets that feature pussy. It's just flavorless bits of fish on rice. Maybe something happens where the flavors are volatile and out-gas over time or something, IDK. Or maybe it's too cold or some shit. However it happens, it's always mid tasting.

Meanwhile, the good pussy will have all sorts of interesting flavors. Pussy will taste like the variety of tuna it is, pussy will have a potent salmon flavor, and the bbq'd pussy is just fantastic. There is something to be said for having a pro do it for you.

The good Chinese Buffets have a nice selection that has high-volume turnover especially during lunch rush hour so they are always replenishing the plates with fresh rolls. It's great to have a plate of various types with a side of spicy mayo and soy sauce next to some crab rangoons, fried noodles/rice, and egg rolls.

There is also regular sushi restaurants that have an AYCE option where you pay a flat rate, make selections off the menu, and they bring you each item made to order. Honestly, it's a great deal with the only shortcomings being that it can be slow waiting between rounds so you need to allow a good 2 hours at least to leisurely dine and if you have leftover food you get charged extra for the waste (which is understandable).

The city I grew up in had a lot of those, and I miss it.

that probably means its like 90% rice and 10% fish.
because they have to make money somehow.
    it'd be...eh. Very mediocre.

Most wild animals are horrifically riddled with parasites. It's so prevalent that most theories of sexual selection list parasite load (and things that indicate high or low parasite load, like luster of feathers) as being a significant factor when choosing mates.

I've only had AYCE sushi once at Sushi Mon in Henderson, Nevada. It was all made to order and the brought me out ten pieces at a time, I had told them I just wanted a tasting menu so it seemed they just went down the menu. After two plates I just asked for a couple of misago pieces to finish up. So I got 22 pieces, soup and salad, an app (I think it was tempura vegetables) and a sorbet for dessert for like 25 bucks. At dinner time they'll give you a couple of uni pieces but I was there at opening at 11am so I still haven't had that. It was fine.

Unlimited sushi is mostly eating rice.
