I also have a bunch of extra chicken broth that was slow cooked green chili pork and drained out that I want to use for ramen or something idk

I wanted to do split pea, but my wife is pregnant and was disgusted with the idea of eating green slop for some reason, so I made the potato leek soup with ham. I ended up giving most of it to my mother-in-law, she's crippled with COPD from smoking 40+ cigs a day for 50 years...so standing long enough to cook is hard for her.

    Looks good OP.

I made a sopa de tortilla azteca last week for a late christmas get together when I finally saw my nephews. Easy mode in the instant pot for the stock, onion, chicken and hatch chili tomatoes. My garnishes were fried ancho chili rings, pork rinds, oven toasted tortilla strips, crema, avocados, limes and queso fresca.

I just made a beef pares noodle soup with leftovers: beef consomme, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, star anise, and black pepper were the main flavors (various other ingredients as well), with tender brisket. It was delicious but it was very rich and now I feel sleepy.

i made a minestrone a while back, but i also added in some turkey meatballs. i tried something different for the turkey, instead of preground, i did a fine mince by hand. totally different texture, more springy with a different kind of tenderness, but i was happy with the final product and would try it again in the future

Tomato chicken. It tastes very Hungarian because reasons.
The missus also made tomato chicken last night, but made sour with some frozen fruit she cooks with. Tastes very south Indian because reasons.
I'm cooking a carrot bisque on Saturday and I've got some mushrooms which will be made into beetroot-and-mushroom soup on Monday. I have no idea if she'll be cooking soup tomorrow.

That was the 90's so money was worth literally double back then. Take all those prices and multiply by about 2.3 and that would accurately reflect today's money.

Into the crock with tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, tin of anchovies, onions, mushrooms and some carrots.

So far I've made a massive 3 bean 3 meat Guinness chili, and several pots of a sausage and potato chowder I'm in love with. U have Clayton's Complete Book of Soups and Stews that I mean to start cooking my way through. But I say that every year and still end up making the 3 or 4 comfort soups I've made for years.

I think the real secret to making soup more filling is to add a few tablespoons of oil to it. Obviously this should be done near the end and not during the main cooking phase.
It's like the easiest way to add a couple hundred calories to something, and probably healthier than adding sawdust.

I am making a chuck roast and potato stew today. Unfortunately I do not have a dutch oven or anything else to really slow cook with, so I will be doing it over the stove.
I am using half a chuck, around half a dozen yukon golds, onion, carrots, and garlic. Pretty cheap for the amount of soup I'm expecting. Maybe I'll go get some nice bread to dip it in.
This is objectively peasant food unfortunately but it is winter time and I am tired of hiding from who I know I am
If anyone has any stew tips I would love to hear them. Hope everyone has a wonderful saturday

How does cooking raw meat in a soup work? Can I just throw it in and let it simmer for hours to make sure it's not undercooked?

its usually better to sear it a bit first then cook it the rest of the way in the soup

If you'd eat it raw just eat it that way, otherwise toss it out
