Why shark fin? It's the most tasteless part of the animal. Eat shark fillets, they're great.

Something about shark fin soup makes it the perfect mix of sweet and savory I've ever experienced. Anytime I'm in a small family owned oriental restaurant I always ask and it's usually available off menu. It's so fricking good I can't even fully articulate why. Shame about all the sharks left to die horrifically swimming in circles, but that's a small enough price to pay for a bona fide delicacy.

What, do they just cut their fins off and toss em back? Thats moronic, why not just butcher the rest of the shark and use it?

You can fit more shark fins than sharks in your rinky-dink chink fishing boat, and they're much more valuable than the rest of the fish because people think they make your peepee grow or whatever.

I guess theres enough demand for the finalone that it's economical to chop the fin and drop the rest. But I have heard of, and seen some footage of this. It's pretty fricked up. Ive never had it myself, and I am curious, but I don't know if I'm quite that curious.

Shark meat is sold locally at low prices, fins are exported.

The rest of the shark meat is worth less than catfood. It's heavy metal laden trash. It's probably not even legal to sell as pet food.
Sharks don't deserve a shred of compassion. Dead eyed insectoid killing machines.

Cartilage tend to form early in life and so it doesn't gather toxins over time, internal organs like liver are the opposite.

If I ever go out into the ocean I will only hunt for sharks, all of them except Basking Sharks.

The only thing shark meat is good for is fish and chips because there's no bones and it stays together when battered and fried.

The fins are just cartilage, you like the soup not the shark fin.

I had this in a restaurant in the Yokohoma Chinatown. I also had shark fine dumplings. They were both pretty good. Its a unique texture.
When I was in Japan I also had some other "forbidden" foods such as whale and horse. Whale is meh, I had the horse as basashi (raw horse sashimi) and it is pretty famn good and popular in some areas.
I also had raw chicken sashimi which I guess could be a "forbidden" good in a way.

Shark fin outside of hong kong, canton, or some places in vancouver is tasteless because the restaurants don't use high enough quality of shark fin. You want to see whole chunks with evidence of the gooey cartilage where the fin has attatched to the body. Stay mad gwailos.

It's more honest compared to the West's endless whining about ecological stewardship while sipping their fifth pumpkin spice latte while toting their one child around in their Range Rover while living in a manufactured McMansion on top of a drained wetland (complaining about why it floods all the time too LOL) and pretending not wearing fur somehow makes the difference. I'll give chinkoids that.

Eating shark is probably more ethical than eating vegan. You're saving the lives of countless fish that would have been eaten alive if you hadn't deliciously intervened on their behalf. It's for the greater good.

Unironically, dog. Especially Mexican style dog (usually a hairless breed).

Second favorite is Ferret and Kidney pie, a British-Cambodian dish that is very niche (cannot get it in any restaurant over there, because of the ferret).
