If you eat fast food past the age of 18, not only are you a moron, but also a slur that would get me banned on Culinaly. Why don't you just cook yourself some normal food?

Do Americans really have deep fryers at home? I thought that was a meme. Anyhow, me being ESL should've made it obvious that I'm not an Anglo that fries everything

Why do b*******s (this one is clearly an ess pee eye see (I once got a month long ban from Culinaly using this word)) love grouping americans and anglos together under the term "Anglo". It's like they're lazy asses simply want to be able to make it so every group they hate does all the things they hate.

no we have basic cookware like dutch ovens and frying thermometers.

        Anonymous

You don't need a deep fryer at home. My first thought went to Asian countries where deep frying in a wok is pretty common. Most Americans don't have have deep fryers at home (or honestly eat a disproportionate amount of fried food for that matter), but people can deep fry without a special appliance. You can also bake without a special appliance, but having a stand mixer AND time is definitely not normal. That's mostly a middle aged housewife thing.

Stand mixers are extremely convenient though.... I think this thread is getting side tracked though, I still need the recipes for...
          >Buns
          >Meat
          >Sauce (optional)
Like I've tried to make hamburgers over the years but never managed to nail the patty quite right. Looking up stuff online has been a crapshoot.

            >stand mixers are extremely convenient though
That has literally nothing to do with anything I said. I also have a stand mixer. Most people don't, because they're kind of expensive and most people don't spend a lot of time baking.

              Anonymous

Eh they're not THAT expensive for the mileage you get out of them. Most people also never make their own dough so it's not really a good standard for anything!

                Anonymous

I was never arguing against stand mixers being a good kitchen appliance. I'm literally agreeing with you that most people don't bake, and don't have a ton of empty counter space in their kitchen, so dropping $400 on a Kitchenaid makes no sense to them. My only point was that there's absolutely nothing obvious or intuitive about you having a stand mixer but somehow being incapable of deep frying anything at home.

Deep frying sounds like a complete hassle though, I mean you need grease and stuff for it that's just messy and hard to store

Plus a literal fire hazard...... I mean I do deep fry stuff from time to time like once a year on a specific holiday but never would I bother making fries or something using the method. Disposal of the grease is also complete ass

slice a bunch of potatoes to fry-lengths, coat in olive oil and then oven bake. its not the same as a real french fry but its about as close as you can get when you're lazy, broke, and dont want to drag a deepfryer setup out on the porch.
burgers are foolproof to make after a couple of tries. just make a bunch of them and then heat them up throughout the week.
once you see how trivially easy meat and bread is to prepare you'll start feeling like a real fricking idiot for ever paying fast food prices

How do you make nice patties that won't break apart and aren't the size of a whole bun?

                Anonymous

Shape with your hands just gently compress into a half-inch thick disc or however thick you want it, i assume you mean you want the burger to be the same size as the bun, they shrink a bit in the pan so just make the patty a little bigger than the bun

                Anonymous

just shape them with your hands to be a bit larger than you think youll need. the important part is no matter thick or thin, always poke a hole in the middle of the patty. not like a donut hole, just an indent. that way the patty wont shrivel up so much when you cook it

All liquids flow to the lowest possible point, anything you dump in your backyard will end up in rivers, lakes, the ocean, etc eventually.

idk man just collect it and make bio-diesel, throwing out quarts on quarts just feels like a waste.

you dont have to grind your own meat, just ask a butcher. you dont need the press he uses, just use a hot pan and a sturdy spatula.

sorry, replied to the wrong post.

2lb bag of frozen fries is like $5, cook them in your oven its easier and they come out healthier than deep frying them. season them with whatever you like.
10 pack of beef patties is like $9
10 pack of burger buns/rolls is like $3
10 pack of american sliced cheese is like $3
congrats, you can make 10 burgers for $15
picrel is pretty good too and very cheap.
