I've decided to become pescatarian and am seeking advice on how to keep a nutritious diet while doing so. I've enjoyed meat for many years but after a recent change of heart I'd like to become plant based but keep eating eggs, dairy, and fish. I avoid heavily (key word: heavily) processed soybean products like the plague. If I cut red meat and poultry out of my diet are there any supplements I should be taking?

given a sufficiently balanced diet, even if you went vegetarian you wouldnt need any supplements but I know a lot of vegans will supplement vitamin B12 and any person in temperate climates should supplement vitamin D.
even a lot of non-vegans have a B12 deficiency and you cant possibly overdose on it so if money is of no concern to you its a solid pick. with vitamin D in my humble opinion its only an issue if you never go outside during the summer months as you body will store enough to last through winter. if you do decide to supplement vitamin D you should know that not every form of it can even be used by your body, there is a lot of snake oil out there so do your research and then dose properly because you can take too much of vitamin D.
everything else is a non-issue, again given a balanced diet including any supposed "lack of protein". cutting out processed garbage including vegetarian processed garbage is definitely a good thing.
if youre still unsure you can have your vitamin levels tested every 6 months or so, just let your doctor know youre changing your diet and want to monitor them.

    why pescatarian?
sustainability? except for tilapia and catfish, fish is the least sustainable animal to eat. chicken is way more environmentally friendly than fish
cruelty? fish suffer just as much as any other animal
health? are you kidding? the oceans are the world's toilet and chemical waste dump

You realize people farm fish right?

farmed fish, except for tilapia and catfish, are fed other fish that were caught in the wild
sustainably it is no different from eating wild fish, and health wise and environmentally it is worse because they pump antibiotics and hormones into fish farms

Mussels are also sustainable but I agree these diets are hypocritical and stupid

mussel farmers still get their sprats (baby mussels) from the wild and mussels are filter feeders bio magnify any nasty shit in the water to a high concentration

They also feed them in the wild, it's not like they can go anywhere
But yes, chicken, then pork are the most sustainable
Beef is too, assuming you have real grassland and you're not ranching in Texas or New Mexico or some other dumb shit, raise your beefs in Alabama or Georgia where grass grows everywhere

      >fish suffer just as much as any other animal
Fish don't feel pain, they lack the nervous system for it.

I don't think it really matters if they feel pain exactly the way we do. They can still experience discomfort. They want to live.

correct and based, OP should pick a damn lane

      Omnivores > Vegans > Vegetarians > Pescatarians
      is the respectability tier list
also while we're here, look into what happens to male chicks that won't produce eggs before you consider eggs a guilt free food

not really honestly aside from D and B12 being good general supplements as other anon said.
do a little reading on mercury content and try not to eat the high mercury stuff too often though, stuff lower on the food chain has virtually none easy to look up.

Make sure you eat mostly farmed fish from reputable sources. Eating that much wild caught fish would poison you.

      >reading is hard
farmed fish are fed wild fish
except for tilapia and catfish, eating farmed fish is the same as eating wild fish except that you get extra hormones and antibiotics with farmed fish

      >fish suffer just as much as any other animal
Fish don't feel pain, they lack the nervous system for it.

a fish's nervous system isn't much different than that of a chicken. fish have pain receptors, a brain, endogenous opioids, and respond to analgesics
pescatariansism is even dumber than veganism

when are we going to move all diet threads to Culinaly? these threads have nothing to do with cooking and it's only adjacent to food.
