Izakayas are good because you eat and drink small portions over the time you are there. Dining with Americans is a totally different experience, you order a huge meal, no one else is allowed to touch it and you eat it in silence like a dog guarding a bone. I had the displeasure of dining at a yakiniku restaurant in Japan with an american once, he was literally at the point of tears because "someone took his meat" from the fire. This guy was 32 years old, I'd never seen anything like it, but it explains so much.

      >you order a huge meal, no one else is allowed to touch it and you eat it in silence like a dog guarding a bone
What the hell are you talking about? Americans don't have family style meals and don't consider eating out or eating with your family to be a social event? Do you think Japanese food is all served communally? Like, you go to a ramen shop with a couple people after work and it's normal to just grab a slice of chashu out of each bowl? Do you also drink from their cup of tea or sake if you're thirsty?
      >someone took his meat from the fire
This is all obviously made up, but the idea of going to a yakiniku place with a foreigner who's clearly never been to one before, but is willing to try it and throws a couple slices of meat on the grill, but before he thinks it's ready the guy next to him grabs it first and slurps it down while laughing "you snooze you lose!" is literal sociopathic behavior. I don't think there's any culture where this would be acceptable behavior. You're basically describing that scene form Office Space where Milton is told to help hand out the cake and then is the only one who ends up not getting a piece.

            >can't answer the question
Which question? You asked where is the substance and where is the filling about a plate of pork belly with a boiled egg marinated in the cooking liquid that is served as a side dish or snack. It's literally a plate of protein and fat, so I don't know what you mean by "substance". Do you mean carbs? As though Japanese people don't eat carbs? And again, it's a plate of sliced pork belly, not ravioli, so I have no idea what you mean by "filling". Do you think pork is normally stuffed with something else? What "filling" do you expect to see?
            >no colour [sic]
That's what pork looks like when it's cooked.
            >no creamy spicy sauce
I'm sure you could buy a creamy spicy sauce from 7-11 if you thought it needed it.
            >no cheese
            wut?
            >nothing filling
Again, it's literally meat and eggs, and it's a SIDE DISH. If you want to make it a meal you can obviously add carbs. Have you never read a recipe in your life? Look up a recipe for beef bourguignon, roghan josh, or chili. All of those are typically served with a carb, but it's not usually included in the recipe.
I know you're trolling. I'm just confused what your argument is or who you're even trying to bait. If you just wanted to make a "durrrrr...japanese food overrated!" thread there's a million ways you could have gone about it that didn't include looking up an image of a dish that the recipe literally calls a side dish or snack and then claiming "japanese people consider this a meal". Are you legitimately moronic?

Before I went to Japan, I would've called this a meme, but it turns out, yes there are entire restaurants where you basically just eat slabs of meet with no vegetables and maybe a little rice. Trying to find a balanced meal as I perceive it with an even helping of proteins, greens, and carbs was borderline impossible at times.
Food was great though, can't wait to go back.
