Liquor prices

How much do you pay for booze where you're at? I'm visiting Portugal and I'm absolutely shocked by these wine prices, even the shittiest wine where I live is $4/liter. Beer is also fairly cheap here too, hard liquor is expensive but I don't mess with it too much anyway so I don't mind.

    Germany: cheapest - common
    Beer: 39 cent/0.5 l - 89 cent/0.5 l (obviously cheaper in cases)
    Wine: 2€/l - 4-10€/l
Spirits: 5€/0.7l vodka - 13-15€/0.7 l for brands like Havana Club, Bacardi, Jim Beam, Johnnie Walker etc. But usually the stuff is on sale for 10-11 € all the time.

Yeah Germany does have a big beer culture, good to know spirits are cheap there too though.

      >*Laughs in Malaysian alcohol taxes

How much is a beer there?

I pay $10.80 USD for my 1.75L of gotrut vodka.

Nice, in CO the rotgut stuff is around $12-13 now, though still not as high as WA

A bottle of Kahlua here is about 38USD here, which is 180 bucks in the local currency
For comparison, 10 MYR here can get you a full meal

A 350ml can of beer is somewhere between 6 to 11 MYR in retail, which is still bullshit
Bars will charge double of that

Just popped into the wine/liquor store yesterday here on the east coast of the USA.

Wine has actually not gone up all that much, I was still seeing 750ml bottles for $13 - 15, which is where they were last time I checked (last year). I paid the same for the sherry as well.

Rum popped up $6 though. The $20 handle is now $26.

Portugal is really fricking poor, it's mostly old fricks and brazilians stinking up the place, if stuff was expensive it would be an empty wasteland.

Western US here, I pay $20 for 1.75L for Old Taylor and $26 for 1.1.75L for Benchmark, both bourbons, decent and extra decent. Brand name liquor usually sits around $25-$35 a liter. A drinkable bottle of wine here is $7-$12 if you have access to a large store that competes on price, but swill can be had at $4. A case (12) of a mid quality craft beer for $18-$22, swill for $10.

Australia is fricked. This is in AUD.
$80+ for any standard 700ml bottle of spirits (vodka, whisky etc)
$55-60 for a slab (x24) cans or bottle of locally made beer
    $15 average for a bottle of wine - 700mil
$100+ for a slab of premixed drinks like vodka cruisers or Smirnoffs in a can

    Majority of that is tax.

We also pay over $50 for a regular packet of 20 cigarettes

      >$80 for spirits
frick no, you're either bullshitting or mad, you'd pay that much for an bottle of local artisan gin or some hippy stuff like that but 700ml of any mid tier spirit is $50 tops. aldi have 700ml bottles of cheap vodka and gin for about $30, and most bottleshops have stuff priced at or under $40.
you can also get cask wine for about $2-3 a litre iirc, wine is taxed the least relative to beer and spirits, with fortified wine being the best value abv% for money.
you're about right for the beer and smokes though

Plenty of decent bottles can be found at $5-8 at Dan's. I usually just get a 2 litre red wine cask for $9.

      Isn't your minimum wage $20/hour?

        Anonymous

High minimum wage doesn't mean anything unless you make minimum wage. Doesn't matter if min wage is $20 or $10, if you're making $25 you're fricked either way with high prices.

Alcohol isn't expensive enough to even bother looking at prices or getting a receipt. I just grab the bottles I want, take them to the counter, mash my watch into the payment terminal, and walk out.
I usually buy a few bottles of soju, a few cans of delirium tremens, and a random middle-shelf bottle of any spirit I'm out of. I have no idea how much any of it costs.

I rarely buy alcohol but when I do it'll be clearance items.
    I've bought an 8-pack of 12oz Svedka seltzers for $6 and a 4-pack of 8oz some other pre-mixed drinks for $3. They're usually $12 or more.
