I remember a line in 1984 where the characters discuss how beer used to be sold by the pint but now is sold as 500ml, with the point being that the replacement of traditional units was one of the tools the Party used to erase British culture.

no idea, i live in southern europe. you can find some good beers from central europe (germany, czek, poland) for a very good price here.

checking my local walmart, the 4 pack of corona is .125usd/fl oz
which converts to 3.31gbp/L, so it's slightly more expensive here than where you are
it's actually way more when you factor in the extra tax that gets added when you check out

Tax does vary by state, I've experienced three so far
            >CO: Extremely minimal sales tax, some municipalities have their own shitty taxes but just hop on the freeway and buy your booze somewhere else
            >CA: High state sales tax on everything, but few/no additional alcohol tax
            >WA: Absolutely fricking absurd alcohol taxes, especially on cheaper hard liquor. Once paid over $20 for a handle of cheap vodka advertised as $12 on the shelf.
That was honestly my own fault though, there is zero reason to move to Washington, full of shitty leftists like California but with less services, less jobs, and the weed is the only thing that isn't absurdly expensive.

Oregon has steep liquor taxes, but no taxes at all on wine, which leads to extremely cheap wine in stores.

The weed in Oregon is also crazy cheap, but theyre one of the states where liquor is only sold in select state ran liquor stores. Cant buy it at the mini mart or grocery store

WA has tax on wine as well, not as steep as hard liquor but still around 25% or so. I do miss those PNW dispensaries though, $5 grams of wax and $20 ounces of bud really can't be found anywhere else in the country

that shit aint sweet its grim. although some ciders are disgustingly sweet and its cheaper because its barely even cider in the blue bottles
its called white cider and is basically like vinegar

              Anonymous

some cider is sweet, some isnt. real cheap cider is sweet to mask the chemical taste (doesnt work).
"cider is taxed at a much lower rate than the other products – between a half and a third as much as beer. Second, the duty per unit of cider falls as ABV rises, so that stronger drinks are taxed less. This is because cider is taxed on the basis of volume rather than alcohol content."

I used to drink really heavy. I lived in Japan for a year and a half and every single night I drank like 4-6 Strong Zero Double Lemon, they're 9% alcohol and tall cans like in the pic. I stopped abruptly bc of a stomach condition and ever since then I've had the worst panic attacks of my life nonstop every day, severe anxiety and depression. I had some of those things before but not nearly to this extent. Be very careful bros.

Your brain is all fricked due to alcohol, now your braincells trigger randomly causing a fight or flight response, but since there's no real danger, it doesn't get focused and you have panic attacks. Booze is very dangerous, just stick to good cocaine

Groceries are cheap in Germany in comparison to other EU countries. Beer is a staple here. 2€/liter is already considered expensive if bought in bulk, for more than 3€/liter it has to be some very special import stuff like belgian.

  25. 2 weeks ago

It's even cheaper on sale. Just €1.10 for a liter of pilsner.
