My upstairs smoke detector goes off every single time I cook steak. The hood on my stove doesn't vent anywhere. Is it normal for a smoke detector to go off when cooking steak? I follow the advice of getting my pan as hot as I can before putting in the steak.
I poop on your face
Do you use any oil or other extra fats? Some burn up quickly.
Avocado oil this time
No, it's literally only when I cook steak.
just wrap some plastic on it when you're going to cook steak, mine used to go off when I'd broil fish
Good idea. I took mine down tonight, that's what made me think of it. It's always the smoke detector at the top of my stairs that goes off
pan nice and hot, knob of butter
steak room temp, coated in salt
in the pan, 2 minutes per side
no moving it! you've got to let it get that crisp, crunchy seared exterior, that's what the punters come in for
pan straight off the range into the oven 350 degrees for 5 minutes
rest 10 minutes, done
fucking delicious
No way your pan is hot enough if you're using normal butter and it doesn't burn.
Use clarified butter instead so you can get a proper sear.
Does your smoke detector also go off when you do not cook steak?
This is a racist dog whistle. Some folks can't afford to change the batteries in their smoke detectors. Go leave, chud.
pretending to be retarded is only worth it if you know how to be funny anon
It wasn't a joke, child. Racists like you have made this board a hostile place for most people. Now run along and let the adults speak, little one.
I don't know what worse, if you're serious or just trying to be funny.
embarrassing yourself with your unfunny unbelievable pointless larp
i do a lot of sjw shitposting myself on the 'chon and while i do appreciate it when others do the same, you must have some finesse if you want it to come across as genuine. don't just go straight to calling people racists etc, be vague and have others fill in the gap. this, on the other hand, is honestly just pathetic.
you are not better or different than that anon, you're acting like putting out shitty energy into the world is some kind of skill lmao, enjoy your self seeded hell. honestly just pathetic
i love my "self seeded hell" lmao, fuck off snowflake
poor people rent, and the property owner is responsible for the batteries. good job being wrong though.
Those are your delusions again, child. You have never owned property and you never will, son. Now run along and hush before you harm yourself.
We're only responsible for that at move in, they are responsible for it after that. Don't forget you're responsible for your own HVAC filters, too, rentoids
How exactly find this kind of stuff? Expend all of your day thinking about blacks?
If you have batteries in it
Larry David demonstrated what you're supposed to do in Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Your kitchen does not have an exhaust fan?
It's an old house, I have a range hood but it doesn't vent anywhere.
Open the windows and doors. You want air flow. Also just take the smoke alarm down when you cook steak.
Have you tried closing the kitchen door and opening the window?
>the kitchen door
What universe do you live in that has a door for the kitchen?
A lot of older houses do.
Holy shit I am already tired of seeing AI sloppa on here and YouTube thumbnails. Can we go back or is this just going to get worse?
You can never go back
Don't forget what they took from you
Governments are going to start outlawing AI in the next few years but its ironically going to make the problem worse
Now why would they do that? AI is the future; everyone knows it. Ban it, and the government will have a literal revolution to deal with. No one wants to go back to a world where artfags having literal monopoly on creativity.
Can you replace your smoke detector with an infrared heat detector?
>*BRRRAAAAAAAAAAP*
>alarm goes off and wakes up your wife and kids
>kids refuse to go back to sleep and now your wife is pissed
My smoke detectors beep all day long at random times. The wife and kids have learned to live with it.
I wish I knew how to make them stop beeping.
Smoke detector also detects carbon monoxide, you know the colorless, odorless gas that will actually kill you.
maybe there are some dual purpose smoke / carbon monoxide detectors but the vast majority of smoke detectors will not detect carbon monoxide..
They’ve been around for years and are very common grandpa.
They are not common, the default for new construction in the United States in the cheapest option available, which in this case is radioisotope smoke detectors, if you want anything better you have to buy and install it yourself.
They are extremely common, every apartment in my building has one
>smoke detectors detect CO
Literally how?
The same way they detect CO2
usually some chemical reaction which changes the color of something and is sensed by a dip in the amount of light hitting a photodiode. or a direct electrochemical reaction causing a current spike
why are the replies in here so retarded lmao?
you basically wanna open the screen doors and windows of your house. Look up "high smoke point oils" and use a high one like avocado, turn on the fan, and finally coat your steak with oil and use less oil in your pan.
Bonus tips: make sure you are pressing the steak into your pan (not hard asf) in order to reduce cook time, get a better sear, and have less smoke as there is less time for things to burn. Also if you are adding butter at the end, make sure you turn the heat down 1 minute before you do it as butter burns and not only tastes bad but could be aiding the smoke
Add the lid, fucking retard.
Two basic types of smoke detectors exist, you have the one that is crazy sensitive to even small amounts of burnt stuff. Get the other kind.
>30 mins
no thanks
Get an air purifier and put it under the smoke detector
broil you dumb dumbby
>The hood on my stove doesn't vent anywhere
Sounds like a code violation, unless you live in some shithole.
Can Americans not turn off their smoke alarm? If you’re personally in the kitchen, you probably don’t need it right? Or are their houses so shoddily built that things just go up in flames with enough regularity that you need a smoke alarm in places that typically don’t catch fire?
>kitchen
>in places that typically don’t catch fire
The smoke detector that goes off is upstairs, which is typically not where kitchens are located
