Poison Bread

Hello,

So in years past I ate lots of sandwiches. Then I started getting better bread with less sugar from Costco. Then I started getting my bread from a bakery and having them slice it as thin as they can. I then freeze that and toast to make the thin cuts more rigid.

What can I do to finally kick this poison food once and for all? Where do I go from here? Tortillas aren't much better. Lettuce wraps are ok in some cases but I don't always have fresh lettuce since I go into town shopping maybe monthly. Any thoughts on how I can move away from thin bread I'd really appreciate. TIA!

What about that edible plastic wrap you find in oriental candies scaled up?

There's a reason why the bible uses bread as the symbol for spiritual nourishment. Bread is love, bread is life. Just do as this anon has said as well

It's pretty unhealthy and cheap peon food though. Sure, it's nourishing. Save it for prison food. It has its place, but it's also 2022 and we now know better. So lets talk good alternatives. It's kinda rude or trolling kinda to come into a thread where I want suggestions of ways to get away from bread and people say... "just eat bread". You know?

For millennia, both peasants and emperors have eaten bread alike. Are you better than an emperor?

There are none. That's the point.

People are saying it because it's true. There's nothing wrong with bread. Just don't eat a ton of it. One sandwich a day is perfectly healthy. Just don't overload the rest of your diet with starchy stuff and you're good.

Just because its a product of a commodity food (wheat), doesnt mean its not amazing. There's nothing cozier than walking into a home that smells of fresh baked bread, especially in the winter with a wood stove going.

I made a wonderful loaf of sesame bread today. I added about 1/4 cup of sesame seeds and 3 TBSP of toasted sesame oil to a french bread recipe in my bread machine and, smeared with a little Kerrygold butter, is sex in my motherfricking mouth.

This. Instead of thinking in terms of sandwich, think in terms of what fills your favorite sandwiches. Like ham sandwiches? Buy a whole ham, slice it up, have some cheese on the side. Like roast beef sandwiches? Literally just eat roast beef and learn how to make a decent gravy to go with it. Soon enough you'll realize the bread adds absolutely fricking nothing and was just there as filler, unless you were eating freshly baked homemade or bakery bread with your sandwiches (you weren't). And even then, good bread is best enjoyed on its own or with some good butter, you don't want all the flavors of a sandwich overpowering it.

Thank you, I understand, but lettuce doesn't freeze well and spoils quickly. As I said in my original post, I can't get to a grocery as often as others. Well, I could... It would just be a nuisance going so often for just a few fresh things. It's also a 12 minute plus the flight in the winter or a beating hour for my truck.

I wouldn't say carbs are bad inherently but the ketogenic diet is the most studied diet in history so I doubt that the diet will be debunked seeing as already there exists no empirical evidence to suggest it isn't healthy to remove carbs entirely. There are no essential carbohydrates required to live there are required proteins and fats.

Inb4 it raises cholesterol there isn't any empirical evidence to suggest that raising cholesterol is healthy. However there is evidence that having low cholesterol increases mortality.

        >seeing as already there exists no empirical evidence to suggest it isn't healthy to remove carbs entirely.
But that's false. There are plenty of documented negative associations with no carb intake and especially a lot of negative associations with the keto diet over a long period of time, particularly heart disease. Not to mention if anyone ever does stop keto they tend to balloon back up almost instantly. No, you won't die from not eating carbs, but you will feel like shit and experience all sorts of negative symptoms.

Keto is already debunked. It's useful in a very limited scope for short term fat burning and weight loss. So in a short term cut(one month), you'll see good results. It's not a healthy diet to be on long term. Most doctors and health professionals don't recommend it as a permanent diet.

keto is overated for fat loss/maintenance. it works for many because they don't get currentyear sugar loads but if you're a weak-willed-homosexual you'll still get fat eating too much fat

My local bakery makes this spectacular dense wheat/seed bread and I go through about a loaf a week. I find it hard to believe that sort of bread is “bad” for you. But I am sure whites, baguettes, and the sour doughs can make you fat. Or maybe I’m just in denial

I live next to one of the top rated local bakeries in the nation. They use top shelf ingredients, fully transparent ingredient list, and charge a premium for it. While I do think bread makes you fat and chubby in excess, do you anons put high-quality baker-made pumpernickel, rye, and seedy wheat breads in that cohort, too? Their pumpernickel especially is spectacular.
