apocalypse larp fantasies become pretty cringe the more time you spend thinking about them critically.

what the frick are you going to do. huddle up in your apartment gnawing on hardtack and soaking white rice for 10 years, while not once going outside to try and find some real food, and just hoping that everyone else does the same thing and starves to death first?

I will have a stack of food that will last enough for most other unprepared people to die of hunger or kill each other.
Let say 2 or 3 months.
I have a solar system so i can stay comfy in my house watching old series for that time until i come out.
But i want to push it a little bit and have that taken care off for the next decade.

Apartment gays are by definitions not preppers. You can't prep for shit if you live in a small box like that. You are guaranteed fricked in any scenario, real or fantasy. At best you are doing 1 month based on your pantry assuming your ass has a stack of water bottle cases.

You have to have a place capable of going off grid as a prepper, or at least with backup solutions. At that point you can stash months to years of food. All that food is pointless without water, so you better be on well or something similar.

        Anonymous

You could prep in an apartment, but your prep is going to be more like having a bug-out kit, plus a rotating supply of viable seeds to grow a couple wheat fields + grain processing tools + light agricultural gear + hunting and fishing gear.
To feed just yourself on nothing but wheat, you'll need about 180 pounds of wheat seeds per acre, and you'll need to cultivate a full acre. Fortunately you can rotate through your supply of viable seed as the seasons change by milling it into flour and buying fresh seed. The alternative is risking not having the seed if you think you know where you can grab enough of the right type if shtf.

This is why planting things that return year after year is important to prepping.
Here's some more native American plants that are food to learn about:
          White oak
          Pecan
          Hazelnut
          Huckleberry
          BlackBerry
          Elderberry
          Muscadine grape
          Heartnut
          Plains bread roots
          Wintergreen
          Chickasaw plum
          Native persimmon
          Pine nut
American chestnut (an endangered species that if you plant enough may prevent a area from becoming developed)

A lot of american landscape goes through natural fire cycles so some of these plants will still provide the following season after civil war, arson by controlling government, masses harvesting anything above ground to not starve. Massive damage from various sources. Heck the pecan tree in distress can be feminized. Enough bullet wounds in a mature male tree it suddenly produces.

most people dont have more than a week's supply of groceries in their homes, and the rotating stock in grocery stores is not sufficent to supply any of the demographic that surronds it. Furthermore, the local foragable wildlife cant even sustain 5% of the population of any densly populated area

the purpose of hoarding food for an end of the world scenario is to outlive 99% of regular people who will starve to death/canibalize each other and then you get to enjoy a world filled with resources ripe for the taking.

Prepping isn't just for the apocalypse but just look at 4 years ago during peak coof days. Shortages of a bunch of shit, massive price rises on other shit. A lot of prepping is just stockpiling useful shit that in the event of supply chain problems will go short first. In addition if you live in an area prone to natural disasters like flooding, earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes etc then prepping is essentially at the difference between life and death. See shit in third world nations where they don't have water and within a matter of days you have outbreaks of shit like cholera because nobody has clean water and the hurricanes/earthquake/whatever wrecked the sewage system so shit is flowing into the water supply.

      >Learn to fish, grow veggies and hunt instead
I hard disagree with the hunting and fishing. If all the farms and grocery stores shut down. You're not going to be the only person hunting and fishing out there. The drastic increase of unregulated hunting and fishing would lead wild animal populations to plummet. Perhaps to the point of local or total extinction. What are you gonna hunt and fish after that?
I believe your best bet for a stable protein source in an apocalypse setting, would be eggs and beans. With meat on rare occasions, reminiscent of medieval peasants' diet.

Buy a manual grinder for making grits or hot cereal out of the grains

About native plants: the american groundnut vine apiose Americana is a ground tuber that regrows even after fire. Provides green bean like veggies during the growing season and tubers in the fall and winter. Planting many years ahead means a good wild establishment of stock. The american native Jerusalem artichoke is also a tuber that is nigh immortal to drought and strife.

a shit ton of canned protein like tuna, chicken, and beans
having a strong protein supply after the initial "food rush" will be extremely valuable and will give you the energy that others do not to work extra hard becoming self sustainable
canned old-world food would probably be insanely valuable for trade too

It's good to remember that humanity in the presence of long term leadership goes through cycles of build up, crash down, then shit collecting at the top leadership then repeat.

"The end of the world" is often just major disruption to normal.

The successful prep is remembering that self sufficiency is key to survival in a leadership failure. Think of any given day to the Amish: they peep out the window us freaking the absolute f out. Wonder what has us so worked up (inflation, civil war, whatever) and can go back to breakfast.
Because they own their land, grow their food, tap their own water, have a communicating and adaptive community any day.

I had a coworker from Africa that told me politicians there were like pigs squeezing in the distance: sometimes it means bacon sometimes it means there just fricking around. The government lets people down enough there that they treat it like a accessory to their lives.

You gotta find a way to provide for yourself and build community. If that manifests in starting a apartment complex community garden, or planting native edible stuff in your local park. It's something. You don't even have to own anything to start looking at ways to own your own fulcrum from which to foist your will.

Manual living skills are more valuable than long storage items.
But having a year of dry goods is nice to ease the transition from buying necessities to growing your own.
Long storage items not already mentioned:
    High calorie:
    Beanless chili
    Canned beef
    Tuna in oil canned
    Salmon in oil canned
    Sardines in oil canned
    Canned butter
    Canned cheese

    Vacume packed with oxygen absorber
    Dry veggies mix
Dry spices mix ( such as Italian spices that can be bulk purchased)

Bulk items to buy not already mentioned
    Honey
    Salt
    Sugar

If you use half your grocery budget on one bulk purchase every month of the year that's 12 bulk dry good. Your diet will be boring but in time you will be able to have a year of dry and canned in rotation. At that point your just buying accessories to your stock like fresh veggies for your rice or beans and stuff. Also replacing what you run out of. At that point you have the luxury of not buying during seasonal or contemporary price raises in general dry goods. The luxury of waiting for the good prices.

You’re all a bunch of fricking idiots. You don’t need to make food, you don’t need to store food, nothing. What you do is get a bunch of women pregnant at different times of the year so they’re all producing breastmilk (placenta if you’re really keen) and all you ever have to worry about is ejaculating. Honestly you (and I mean you personally, the one reading this right now) are a fricking moron and you would be built like a twig, dying of starvation, while I would be getting breastfed and laughing my ass off.

    >10 years
You don't need that, you just need 2 months supply and you will outlast 90+% of the population. Remember the panic during the pandemic? A significant percentage of the urban population does not even have 2 days worth of food in their homes because they eat out or get ubereats all the time.

If you want to be extra safe, you can have a 2 year supply at most so you have time to establish your own food production, and there are plenty of varieties of ordinary store pasta, rice, jarred and tinned food that last that long, just make sure to use a rotation system to eat the old food first and not waste anything.

Rather than prepping for some 10-year famine scenario, I would rather prep for more realistic scenarios. Do you have emergency savings in case you lose your job or need to fix your car? Are you prepared for the electricity to cut for three days? (keep freezer going, cooking, entertainment, etc) Are you preparing for retirement? (apparently 50% of single women have no retirement plans or savings) Can you fix simple things around the house? Do you know what to do if your child got sick on vacation? etc.

Cities rely heavily on importing food, water, and other essential supplies and resources, in apocalypse everything collapse, people will turn against each others for a piece of bread after a few days at best, also you have limited space for growing food and no access to water
    >population
In Texas after the fell of the grid in a winter a few years ago people almost killed each others only after a couple of days even with the help on the way, now imagine something like that but help never arrive, gangs will appear to take from the weak and to kill them, you won't survive alone, only if you're in a bunker or leave the city
    >disease and illness
Cities are breeding grounds for diseases and illness, that's without a mountain of corpses, garbage everywhere and 1000 fires

Your best option is to stack food and water and some medical supplies for 1-3 months and stay in, by the time you're out your city is dead and the smart ones already left, but you will need survival skills to hunt/raise cattles/ grow food etc after that while searching for a group of survivor who are not cannibals

almost all governments operate on the basis that civil society is about 9 meals away from breaking down at any time

View from someone who lived through a natural disaster.

First week: most social structures have worked themselves out. People know where the treat is/ unlivable places are and those with social support are moving away from those places temporary. Fuel sources are quickly drained. Drug addicts and alcoholic start withdrawal and are venomous desperate for a fix. Diabetics and medical reliant consider debt or death. grocery stores use the disaster for insurance fraud and throw away perfectly good food.

Second week: the frail have been moved or have died. The addicts are sober or dead. People charge you 20$ to charge your cell phone from their solar panels. The government gets ripped off by giving tax dollars to contractors with no verification. You get a care package and a t shirt once but not enough to help. The local brewery starts packaging water in cans and distributes it ( later drunks will try to turn in the water filled cans for beer) as a tax write off and public relations win. You get your water from a well someone smarter than you has had for a decade and is now nice enough to share with the public. Dumpster diving grocery store insurance fraud becomes a fun hobby.

Third week: electric company throws extravagant parties in your city hotels, Shure there fixing stuff but why the parties? City works cleans and clears, local food banks drive out to ghetto places to make Shure people still eat. Insurance fraud abounds. Whoops my house caught on fire. My car flooded too

Fourth week things are starting to become normal for those who were not directly demolished.

The thing is that during these issues it never feels like a disaster. In places that have hurricane, earthquake, fires, or war. The locals are used to it and have systems in place. The subtlety is disarming. Being prepared ahead of time means unless you are directly hit it's just a inconvenience.

Things canned in glass jars like everyone used to know, because all the rest sits in a small bag of plastic, which once it dissolves, lets the food rust the metal casing and his ruins the goods. Old metal canned food are inedible.

And it has to he preserved in
      >fat
      >sugar
      >salt
      >vinegar
On top of being canned, so it doesn't spoil.
You can't buy this stuff, because they want you to die. They are Masonic Egyptians, who want to enslave the human race. Not Democrats.

And if you have a cellar, think about foods that take decades to age, cheese, meats, alcohols, and store those. But this all takes knowledge and skill.

This is a good video on food prepping. Basically everything you need to know for survival level and you can scale it up.
Don't watch anything else from him, he becomes more and more schizo.
