Is it best to get a japanese rice cooker or will any cheap one do the same job?

basic b***h rice cookers are fine, but higher end rice cookers do make a bit better rice, and tend to have more options for different types of rice, and potentially other shit (bread baking, cake making, other grains like oats, etc)

i'd most likely only be cooking long grain white rice and sushi rice.

well proper sushi rice will be better in the higher end rice cooker, but how much that matters to you is up to you.

It'll also probably do your long grain a little bit better, but not as much as the sushi rice.

      >rice gets stuck to the bottom and fricking scorches and makes the whole thing taste like shit unless you are watching it the entire fricking time vs just throwing rice and water in a cooker and you can take a fricking 3 day vacation and still have perfect rice
thanks for confirming you are a moronic homosexual whos time is not worth anything

LOL dumbest fricking moron on the site. let me guess, you still measure your water? wrong move kiddie, you just use infinite water in a pot and when the rice is done you dump it all into a siv to drain it

FRICKING HILARIOUS that youre so clueless and inept at cooking that you need 2 water 1 rice to measure your cooking FOR YOU instead of intuitively knowing when the rice is done

        LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

        >unless you are watching it the entire fricking time
        2 cups water
        1 cup rice
bring water to boil while stirring rice
lower temp to lowest setting on burner, cover, walk away for 20 mins.
        it's done and not burnt.

This is precisely what I do down to the measurements, but my NInja pots always boil over and the starch filled water burns along the side of the outside of the pot. It's annoying as frick. Only way to stop it is to lift the lid for a few seconds every couple minutes while it cooks.

The secret is to let it steam instead of heating all the way.
        >1 cup white rice
        >1.5 cups of water
        >on highest heat
        >bring to boil (I just boil it in a kettle cause I can't be fricked waiting for that part)
        >as soon as it boils cover and put on lowest heat you have
        >cook 12 mins
        >take it off the heat
        >wait 6 mins
        >uncover and stir
Here you go. Perfect rice. I found this method foolproof because it cooks off the heat. if you want the seeds separated toast it in a tiny splash of oil (like 1 teaspoon) before pouring in the water. It precooks the starch coating.

Basically the two main brands is Zojirushi(Japanese) and Cuckoo(Korean).
I feel like Cuckoo offers more myself but I've never really done a comparison between the two brands.
You do get what you pay for(outside of the highest of the high end cookers)
A $300 rice cooker will make really good rice and a $100 will make ok rice.
If you eat rice a lot and it's important to you, I'd say get the most expensive one you can afford.

I second this. If you want to be less mianstream like me you can also get japanese Tiger. I got the induction cooking one and I'm happy with it.

unless it has digital controls for different kinds of rice, most rice cookers are the exact same. they all use the same neat trick to turn off when the rice is cooked.

I bought a basic b***h Oster brand rice cooker for Black Friday back in 2017 and I'm still happily using it to this day.
