I tried eating some plain salad recently. What's the fricking point? No taste, no nutrition, probably spent more calories digesting it than I got back.

a "plain salad" is not a pile of dry lettuce anon, surely you understand this

It wasn't just "dry lettuce", it was one of those mixed green salads with dandilion looking leaves and purple leaves, and it was pre washed so it wasn't dry
OR are you saying a salad isn't even a salad unless you dump a bunch of mayo on it?

Plain? Just salad greens with nothing on them? Why would you do that? At least throw on a little olive oil, salt and pepper.

I wanted to see if a salad could stand on its own without being carried by mayo, and if its even possible to get through part of the day having eaten only vegetables. Both are a resounding no. Made some caesar dressing for the rest, and leaves go from 0/10 to 10/10 with mayo based dressing.

lmao, does your handler know youre on Culinaly?
you can do a lot of things to make a salad better, add stuff, thats what makes it a salad
cucumbers, olives, tomatoes, banana peppers, mushrooms, cheese, sometimes I put some tuna in, and thats before any amount of dressing, even basic olive oil

try kale it's really good on its own. I could just munch a bundle of kale leaves dry and be happy.

Kale tastes like dogshit and has no nutritional value whatsoever. It's literally a waste product that was thrown away until corporations started advertising it to gullible morons as a "superfood" so they could extract some extra money from it.

You could do some other dressing than mayo if you need it. Vinegrette, tahini, what ever you like

It is the crouton for me. Don't even need sauce as long as there are copious croutons to munch on.

Salad vegetables are usually low in fat and calories so it makes sense. Plus fat helps you absorb some nutrients.

Any fat source could work though. You could probably make a "sauce" from walnuts or something. Or avocado. Coconut cream would probably be good but the salad can't be too cold or else the fat will solidify in that.

That's how it works if you're eating salad as a meal anyway. If I was eating salad as a side dish to something, especially something fatty, I'd want it to be more acidic with maybe just a tiny bit of added fat.

if the salad doesn't taste like straight battery acid i'm not interested

Try making one with hydrochloric acid. You would have to dilute it more or add some alkaline stuff to it to not burn a hole through your face, but its not toxic and it would be pretty cool

    Yes, but also no.
You need the salad ingredients to provide texture for the good taste of the dressing.

I haven't used dressings on salad on purpose ever. like if it's served with a dressing I'll eat it but when I make it myself I don't, there's no need. Just use enough veg with actual flavor. onion, peppers, cucumbers etc.and a protein or two like hard boiled egg and chicken or a couple cold cuts whatever.
