Only works on a gas stove. An electric stove can't keep a temperature that's both low and consistent even in a heavy cast iron pot. Many apartments nowadays only have electricity and ban portable gas stoves. That's how I know you're a spoiled boomer.

Dutch oven goes in the oven, also I'm only 30 but live in a house that was built 100 years ago, so I have a gas stove (which is superior to an electric one)

Stop being a homosexual. Dutch ovens work fine with electric the entire fricking point is their heat retention, you don't need surgically precise flame control

Doesn't get hot enough to really effectively cook anything or produce browning.
honestly it's fine if you just want a hot meal with as close to zero prep required but it's always going to pale in comparison to a dutch oven.

I want to agree with this shit so much because of the price but I just can’t, considering just natural flavor with no seasoning besides salt, a grilled/seared steak wins every time in terms of flavor.
And when we start breaking down cut by cut, sure a slow cooked chuck roast with some nice seasonings will probably taste better than your average sirloin. But compare that to again an either seared or grilled over fire New York strip/ribeye/filet mignon, it’s getting beat again. And I’m just comparing a seasoned roast with salted steaks, if you make it fair and get some chimichurri style side sauce for the steaks then the slow cooks are getting blown the frick out of the water.
Price wise I want do want to like toasts more but it’s hard especially considering I have to eat top round (I’m cutting) instead of chuck which is even worse
Thanks for coming to my ted talk

All of you in here probably buy the white colored cheap cut packages discounted at Walmart for steaks kek
Any normal steak cut like ny strips or ribeyes even filet, will beat pot roast any day of the week
Broke copium is what this sounds, yeah a good steak for any of those cuts rn is starting around 14.99 a lb, topping with filet at probably 25.99lb
It’s ok to say good steak prices are ridiculous, but stop coping with the fact you can’t afford one

Purchasing power is miles from what it used to be even just 4 years ago so that “muh cow can’t make as many steaks as roast cuts so more expensive haha” falls deaf. 2022 I believe I saw steak prices in my area go up 25-30% overnight without any justification to the consumer. They haven’t dropped since.
To not recognize that people aren’t grocery shopping the shit they used to before and having to be a lot more careful with their spending is just ignorant

with regards to braising, how much of an improvement over just water is a stock made with other ingredients like carton broth, vegetables, wine etc.

would a dry slow roast be better than a plain (water only) liquid braise?

      Anonymous

Braising is my favorite way to cook. Lazy cook, yet tasty. Put it in, chug beer, check in a few hours, win.
I normally go with stock from carton, considering I shred the meat up and put on a bed of rice, so it gives the rice an extra sum sum.
If you're a poorgay in college like when I discovered braising, a bullion cube or two work as well without breaking your wallet. And bay leaves. Bullion and bay can make a regular water braise much better if you can't keep buying cartons of stock

I enjoy the dry roast. I tried it once just to see what would happen and turned out great.

I've also used water in place of stock and as long as you reduce it down enough you can't really tell a difference

The best way to terrorize the rare steak fanatics who go around asking people their steak preferences solely to find well done steak eaters to criticize is telling them you don't eat steak at all. It's pretty funny actually.

Why are you pretending? Are you so shallow, so empty of any moral compass whatsoever, or solid heartfelt opinion, that you feel the overwhelming need to *pretend* about something you don’t believe so others won’t say something snide about you? Is your very existence, nay, your inborn molten core level of anxiety built upon such craven ideals that you have to PRETEND to go along with the unwashed masses so you can appear to fit in? Imagine being the spineless cowardly thing that is you. So afraid to be yourself, to be unique, you feel you must pretend to hold a belief you don’t agree with so you can remain hidden among marching morons on a daily basis. Truly, a more pathetic and emotionally crippled case of sorrow
cannot be unearthed throughout human history, aside from the pitiful, sociological milquetoast that is you. It goes without saying, your dejected mother weeps at her ultimate failure that is your solitary, useless, and ephemeral existence of nothingness upon the face of our planet. The gods weep
