Sour Cream

I got a tub of this because it makes tacos taste better. I don't make tacos though. What are some good uses for this, so it doesn't go to waste?

You can bake something that uses buttermilk (cornbread, biscuits, etc) and sub in sour cream 1:1 with zero problems

It goes with almost anything. A dollop alongside a plate of eggs. A dollop alongside steak. A dollop stirred through rice. A dollop on your chicken and peas.

Sour cream squeeze tubes are infinitely superior to tubs.
Something about the tubes helps them last much much longer in the fridge, I've never had one go bad on me

Pretty good for making a base for cold sauces if you are having root vegetables, fish or pork. Mix it with a bit of mayo and whatever else. Lemon, mustard, garlic. Whatever fits best.

Good on chili. Also when making any kind of pureed soup (tomato, corn, broccoli, loaded potato) it's great to dump a few tablespoons in and whisk until disappeared at the end to lighten everything and round out the flavors with the richness and acidity provided.

Also if you haven't already OP, now is a great opportunity to try borscht:

Mix a spoonful into eggs instead of milk when you make scrambled eggs, put a spoonful in a creamy soup like tomato or butternut squash, on top of roasted potatoes, mixed with fruit instead of cottage cheese, and just put it on top of everything because sour cream tastes so good.

    I dip pierogi in it.

I like it on beans, of almost any type.

Mix it with a Lipton onion soup packet for the best chip dip out there.

Add it to mashed potatoes. Put it in baked potatoes.

Make French fries in the air fryer, melt cheese on top, cover with chopped bacon and sour cream

    Other than chili and stroganoff…

Jamaican Curry Chicken and rice with a dollop of sour cream on it to cut some of the spice. Super easy to make.

Ambrosia fruit salad. Whipped cream mixed with sour cream make the fruit and marshmallow binding agent.

Anything potato based or potatoes involved. Something like baked potato wedges dipped in sour cream.

Or just nuke a russet after jabbing it with a fork on top a bit, then split it in half long ways and scoop out most of the potato leaving a quarter inch so next to the skin, then whip it with the potato inside the skin until it’s mashed together, sprinkle it with cheese then broil it for three minutes on high for a super easy twice baked potato, when you’ve eaten the middle dip your skins in some sour cream.

Mix a splash in with broccoli, cheese and rice casserole to give it a touch of extra creaminess.

Mix cream, berries, and sour cream to make a tart filling for crepes.

gonna have to do some experimenting. sour cream has a yogurt-like acidity and a creamy texture. it doesn't seem like a daily use sort of condiment.

Turks literally just pour water into yogurt and drink it and go "hey we finally figured out how to use this bullshit"

I think sour cream goes really good with mashed potatoes. And I mean, adding sour cream as you're mashing the potatoes. It adds a nice flavor to it, if you happen to think mashed potatoes can be kinda 'blah'-tasting.
