obviously i know that. i'm talking about splitting them down the middle before chopping them to bring out the flavor

Food has become a point of depression since I lost my internal sense of smell.

what about your external sense of smell?

Yeah I can shove my nose into things and smell it but if I try to experience the aroma of food in my mouth by passing it upwards it's 90% inhibited.

It's not so bad, food doesn't really taste that good anyway.

Either you're in the same position as me or you've truly never had a really good meal your whole life.
This affects everything related to food, even drinks like wine where it determines everything of its complexity. It's basically chewing textures with sweet, salt, sour and umami taste but none of the aroma which triggers your dopamine. It truly sucks a lot. I imagine I'll be more like you as time marches on though, as I'll forget how good it used to be.

You might die soon, losing sense of smell is correlated to dying a few years later for some reason

The only reason i remember this is because it happened to someone i knew. They complained they lost their sense of taste and smell and about 4 or 5 years later they died

I haven't had a sense of smell since I was 13 thanks to some sinus surgery. Living just fine and perfectly healthy.

                >perfectly healthy
You know you can die of cancer in a couple of months without even being aware it has manifested in your system for a prolonged time? People don't always get obvious symptoms of declining health before it rushes to the end faster than you'd think.

Trips and I think this is because people who can't smell eat rotten food
My FIL can't smell I've seen him drink a half gallon of spoiled milk

How? Have you always been like this? You implicate it's a recent issue in the last few years.

Yeah I had something similar to the coof like 3 months back and I've had a very slightly runny nose every day since then. I've used nosespray to clear it but the smelling sensation from food maybe returns to 10%. I know people who had covid were left without taste but this is more like a heavy blanket overall. As said, I still smell stuff outside of my mouth pretty much normally.

I like his videos. If I had to find a single complaint it’s that he’s Sichuanese so his flavor profiles are always the same.

oh boy a new wang gang video, lets see how he makes the dish this time
    >cut up meat
    >cut up ginger
    >cut up red and green chili peppers
    >cut up scallions
    >heat up some oil in the jet engine kitchen wok
    >add all that shit to the wok
    >add chinese rice wine and rapeseed oil
    >meal is finished and plated
It's unfortunate how popular this guy got because there's a lot more to sichuan cooking besides ginger scallions and peppers that are fried in a wok but that's 99% of his videos. All the dishes are the same shit, dude makes soups, salads, desserts or anything else it's always the same ingredients fried in his wok.

      You're basically right.
90% of what any Szechuan chef I see online do, are just stir-braises with bean paste, chilis, garlic, and ginger, with soy sauce.
      Not all that imaginative.

His other channel (https://www.youtube.com/@chefwangfoodtour) where he reviews restaurants and food stalls is pretty good too. Because of his professional training and experience, he can actually discuss the finer culinary details and even stuff like the logistics of the restaurant he's reviewing. Also a pretty nice uncensored look at the real China.
