The missus and I combined barely earn six figures but I own the house outright, no mortgage.
Neither of us grew up on hotdogs or American-style white bread but I like both and don't see the point in paying 3× as much for hotdog or burger buns when American-style white bread works just as well.

      https://i.imgur.com/nrhPK5C.jpg

      Ya dun goofed.

      lol
Literally every Asian country does some variant, usually with ketchup.

I have lived in a bunch of different places in Europe. I never heard of a struggle meal until I saw it on the internet and had to look it up. From what I read it's when you don't have normal food because you're poor at the time? Here people are either poor or not, they don't keep switching. The poorest are young guys on their own but they just cook food at home and eat take out. I have never met someone who had to eat anything like in OP image as a dinner because they didn't have money that month.

Same, except we moved around from Europe to Asia to America at various points while I was growing up.
For me, a struggle meal would be when neither I nor the missus feel like actually cooking and we've got to feed our kid. Most recently, it was bullshit chili with tortilla chips. I thawed and crumble cooked some frozen mince, added blanched, shocked, peeled and hand-crushed tomato, chopped onion, minced garlic and chopped jalapeno and serrano chillies, cooked them until translucent then added flour to make a roux.
Compounded the roux with chili powder, cumin powder, chipotle powder, ancho powder, paprika and cayenne then added tomato juice, water and spicy beef stock cube. Stirred it until the roux dissolved and everything was thick and that was it. Took literally 20 minutes. We could have cooked up some rice to go with it instead if chips but neither of us wanted to go through the hassle of washing the grains.
At least it was three servings of veg per portion.

It's really not so bad if it's wheat bread and a quality sausage. it becomes slightly bad if it's mystery pink meat and white cake bread.

Struggle meals are for dumb people who never look out for deals and pay $3/lb for chicken legs

"Struggle" meals means one of a few things
      >I'm a college student with no money and I'm spending the dead minimum I can to keep my heart beating through this exam season/adderall binge
      >I'm a low tier wagie making just enough to pay rent, with no mental capacity to make the effort on cooking plus likely drug/alcohol use taking up money and time
      >I'm a kid whose mom (single) is in the above category and I'm getting fed the cheapest and simplest food possible to avoid a visit from CPS
Hope this clears it up for you guys

        Anonymous

There is more to the foods in OP's pic than simply cheapness. There is also an element of moronicness and lack of cooking skill. When all you have are hot dogs and wonderbread, that's what you eat. But when you know how to cook and grocery shop, you can make much more dignified meals without spending extravagantly.

          Anonymous

That is accounted for in the second and third categories already, but the college student frequently will be living in a dorm room situation with no actual ability to cook beyond a microwave or a hot plate, maybe a toaster oven if they're really high iq. Plus of course they have an endless amount of looming deadlines and no actual "time off" if they care about studying hard. You're right obviously in a general sense but this is where the "struggle" aspect comes in. They have spent all their money, time, and energy on everything else first and are putting the least possible of all 3 in to their food because of it.

Marketing wants people to buy products. Marketing wants people with misplaced pride and a little money to spend more on prodcuts they pretend are more "premium". These are not mutually exclusive.
