The two are pretty different, first from spirit differences (column still versus pot still, which changes flavor characteristics), second from lime preparation (lime is muddled versus squeezed which gives lime oil); and third from sugar (one is a syrup, the other goes straight into the cup, which means there's texture and consistency differences). But they are one of the n+1 variations of rum+sugar+lime drinks, so eh.
>is this timeless classic better than hue-hue muttshit
The caipirinha is as old as the daiquiri, for what it's worth.
You’re just subbing the rum for gin. Thats not less. Rose’s is lime juice with simple syrup. That recipe is too sweet for me, needs more gin. -t. alcoholic
Wrong, Rose's Lime Juice has the oil from the peel, which squeezing doesn't.
>rhum agricole tastes just like cachaca
There are a few differences such rhum agricole is often made on column stills versus cachaca's pot still as well as rhum agricole's aging heritage being similar to that of brandy (so VSOP and XO are terms that apply to it and aging is on oak casks), while cachaca's aging heritage instead sees some very unusual woods used, but by virtue of being made out of the same base (fermented sugarcane juice), the end result is fairly similar when it comes to major charateristics.
I haven't had one. Is it more sweet or sour? I presume a bit of both. I probably wouldn't drink it if it was a lot of sugar, though. The alcohol is enough as it is.

Flor de Cana 4 extra seco, I've been away from home for months and I didn't even think of this for so long, but now I want one very badly
Standard is Bacardi Carta Blanca, 3 stars is good ... try Havana Club
>standard is carta blanca
only because it's so widely available and that's what they tend to use in bars in run of the mill bars in the US, but Havana Club 3y/o is so much better it's not even funny
I want to try this brand almost solely because of the fact that the name 'plantation' elicits images of Black folk working on a sugar cane plantation like the good ol' days in my mind.
I bought a shitload of booze and bartending gear during the pandemic cuz I thought I wanted to be a cool movie/anime bartender and then realized most bar work is making the same 10 drinks, pouring pints of beer and not even wearing a cool classy outfit. Learned like a hundred recipe and now all I do is make drinks for friends and family and even then I don't know why I bother making stuff like homemade eggnog and wassail for the holidays cuz no one seems to want it.
Nah, it's an old one from the early 20th century. He didn't specify ratios, but it's basically a Martinez, but with rum - so you start with equal parts vermouth blanc and rum, then do a barspoon of grenadine and a barspoon of dry curacao. It's pretty damn good.
Lol what? There is literally nothing more reddit than pretending your favorite thing to do is drink scotch neat. I get it if it's an occasional thing with a bottle of really good scotch shared between close friends or family but just regularly drinking a glass of scotch on its own is definitely the behavior of men who were raised without fathers.
>bros, have you tasted this SCOTCH i just bought? it has flavors of PEAT and OAK with HINTS of MOSS and BARK. no, you can't drink it with ice, it has to be enjoyed NEAT for the FLAVOR profile.
I'm talking about my tastebuds, frickhead, I'm not basing my opinion on some autistic idea of what a proper wienertail "should" be. I simply fricking love vermouth and bitters.
I do, actually.
Behold, a suffering bastard.
1oz Brandy
1oz Gin
1/4oz Brown syrup
2 dashes Angostura
1/2oz lime
4oz ginger beer
Shake everything except ginger beer with ice
Mix in ginger beer in glass
Garnish with a mint sprig or orange slice
Nope. When I feel like drinking it’s either beer or whiskey on rocks, i don’t understand why people would want sweet alcohol. There is no need to insult, I’m trying to understand. I don’t drink soda so maybe that has to do with me not understanding
wienertails don't have to be sweet at all. its like cooking, you combine and balance flavors to create unique tastes. a good wienertail showcases the uniue characteristics of a high quality spirit.
yeah a few more thanks
little bit of citric acid in with the lime and sugar to make it a cordial
caipirinha or mintless mojito
Is the daiquiri better than the caipirinha?
Yes.
>is this timeless classic better than hue-hue muttshit
Depends

>column still versus pot still
What a bullshit. You can distill both spirits the way you want. Also rhum agricole tastes just like cachaca.

Doesn't matter. We're talking about unaged varities in wienertails. It's rectified sugar cane swill vs rectified sugar cane swill.
not by a long shot
I haven't had one. Is it more sweet or sour? I presume a bit of both. I probably wouldn't drink it if it was a lot of sugar, though. The alcohol is enough as it is.
I hate the fact that most people think this is supposed to be a red slushy drink
>Rum, lime and sugar.
>Let me guess,
>You need more?
I need less.
You’re just subbing the rum for gin. Thats not less. Rose’s is lime juice with simple syrup. That recipe is too sweet for me, needs more gin. -t. alcoholic
try it with homemade lime juice
>Lime juice recipe
Ingredient limes
Step juice em
No.
i don't need that.
Yes i do need more, a pisco sour mogs your pathetic drink
Frothy egg white shit? No gracias.
>rum + more sugar
get some rye up in this b***h
>rum=sugar
moron.
Anyone got good rum recs for daiquiris? I've been using 3 stars, but I think that's pretty standard.
Standard is Bacardi Carta Blanca, 3 stars is good ... try Havana Club
thanks, I'll try havana club
Are you getting real havana club in the USA or are you buying the fake bacardi-owned havana club?
Havana Club 3 is my favourite.
Flor de Cana 4 extra seco, I've been away from home for months and I didn't even think of this for so long, but now I want one very badly
>standard is carta blanca
only because it's so widely available and that's what they tend to use in bars in run of the mill bars in the US, but Havana Club 3y/o is so much better it's not even funny
Carta Blanca is called for in the original recipe ... or rather the oldest recipe that calls this mixture Daiquiri. Bacardi is originaly from Cuba.
Carta Blanca is lighter rum which served a purpouse in the original recipe that was served on crushed ice.
I want to try this brand almost solely because of the fact that the name 'plantation' elicits images of Black folk working on a sugar cane plantation like the good ol' days in my mind.
when you first grab the bottle the rope around it will elicit visions of slavery on par with dreams of the Pharaoh.
Plantation 3 star is great rum, it's worth trying
>swap the rum with gin
>add angostura bitters
ahh, perfect
I bought a shitload of booze and bartending gear during the pandemic cuz I thought I wanted to be a cool movie/anime bartender and then realized most bar work is making the same 10 drinks, pouring pints of beer and not even wearing a cool classy outfit. Learned like a hundred recipe and now all I do is make drinks for friends and family and even then I don't know why I bother making stuff like homemade eggnog and wassail for the holidays cuz no one seems to want it.
>Let me guess
Frick you and your moronic template bullshit.
Okay fun police
>fun police
You wish. This is way past your local fun police. I’m with a federal fun-regulating agency.
yes, maraschino liqueur, pink grapefruit juice and ice
I don't need the sugar though
Rum, Vermouth Blanc, Dry Curacao and Grenadine. The patrician Rum wienertail for the superior gentleman
That sounds like the kind of crappy wienertail a liquor distributor would invent for ad copy
Nah, it's an old one from the early 20th century. He didn't specify ratios, but it's basically a Martinez, but with rum - so you start with equal parts vermouth blanc and rum, then do a barspoon of grenadine and a barspoon of dry curacao. It's pretty damn good.
you sound like a dumb homosexual
>sugar
Do Americans really?
do you know what a wienertail is?
no, i need less
scotch, neat
*tips fedora*
what?
The hat you wear when you drink your scotch.
i don't wear a hat, ever
imagine being so fricking insecure you can't even drink a drink because your afraid reddit is going to bully you for it
I hate white rum.
Navy rum with some cherry cola with a slice of lemon is the one for me.
Always cracks me up how this gay ass drink was hemmigway's fav
Because unlike you Hemingway was not a homosexual.
Well duh, Hemmingway was a fricking ponce.
>bros, have you tasted this SCOTCH i just bought? it has flavors of PEAT and OAK with HINTS of MOSS and BARK. no, you can't drink it with ice, it has to be enjoyed NEAT for the FLAVOR profile.
Yes, I need fricking vermouth. Any wienertail without vermouth is USELESS. Or at least bitters.
The entire sour category does exist, and wienertails aren't immutable but often bases for experimentation.
I'm talking about my tastebuds, frickhead, I'm not basing my opinion on some autistic idea of what a proper wienertail "should" be. I simply fricking love vermouth and bitters.
that sounds like something a black woman would name her child
I do, actually.

1/2oz lime
4oz ginger beer

so close then you ruined it.
Why are wienertails even a thing? The whole concept just flies over my head
are you mentally moronic? non ironic question.
Nope. When I feel like drinking it’s either beer or whiskey on rocks, i don’t understand why people would want sweet alcohol. There is no need to insult, I’m trying to understand. I don’t drink soda so maybe that has to do with me not understanding
Every aged spirit is on the sweet side too. Stick with real dry spirits then.
wienertails don't have to be sweet at all. its like cooking, you combine and balance flavors to create unique tastes. a good wienertail showcases the uniue characteristics of a high quality spirit.
tastes good. simple as.
No but i like to replace rum with bourbon or whiskey for a nice whiskey sour, thanks.
All I need is a glass filled with ice and a 90% vodka 10% cranberry juice mixture.
less actually
gin, tonic
simple as
